Do you find yourself wondering why you think the way you do? Or why you're not able to make the changes you want? The truth is those are some of the most important questions one can ask in order to heal. Healing isn't a linear process and I'm here to help navigate it. I have a passion for working with individuals who find themselves struggling to feel heard, understood, or empathized with while navigating life. My primary focus is work with individuals ages 16-30 seeking support with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, and relationship issues.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or struggling to cope with life's challenges? Taking that first step to ask for help can be daunting, but you've already shown courage by considering it. Just like standing at the edge of a high dive, it can feel scary and intimidating. But remember, you're not alone, and reaching out for support is a significant achievement in itself.

Anyone can give advice.  In my experience, people come to therapy looking for something they cannot get anywhere else. Usually they are struggling with anxiety, depression, or some other issue that they have not been able to solve on their own. How does therapy help? My philosophy is that we heal through relationship—not in isolation. So rather than providing a list of pre-scripted tools, I strive to develop genuine connections with my clients. But beyond simply looking for relief from troubling symptoms, my goal is to help you create the life you want to live.

You see yourself as a high-achieving person, but there are parts of your life that feel unbalanced. Perhaps there are self-destructive behaviors that are getting out of control. Or your relationships may be causing you grief. There may also be an empty feeling or nagging fears under the surface. Even if you are accustomed to solving things yourself, this may be the time to reach out for help from a professional who specializes in working with high-functioning clients like yourself. I offer a rare combination of two decades of experience in the MIT/tech world with substantial training as a psychotherapist.

My clients are vibrant, intelligent people who sometimes face challenges regulating their emotions, controlling their impulses, maintaining their relationships, and being compassionate toward themselves. I also see people who struggle with overthinking, mood fluctuations, and low self-esteem. Often, folks reach out after experiencing a loss or in the midst of a conflict or transition. I work frequently with arts and entertainment professionals, corporate leaders, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as those whose loved ones have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

No one ever said it (life, relationships, career, school) would be easy but should it be this hard? Taking the first step to explore therapy can be challenging but it can be helpful to obtain support during times of transition or difficulty. If you are still unsure, or even if you are familiar with the therapeutic process, meeting me and getting more information about how I work just takes one session, and a consultation costs you nothing.

Everyone has a story to tell, and a unique set of circumstances, challenges, and experiences that make us who we are. I became a therapist because I believe everyone deserves a safe space in which they can be heard and receive support in navigating any issue that prevents them from being the person they want to be. I have experience working with children, teens, and their families, as well as young adults, working on issues ranging from anxiety and depression to self-esteem, trauma, difficulty adjusting to life transitions, complicated relationships, or with people who simply wanted to get to know themselves better.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
