As a licensed clinical psychologist, I view my role as guiding individuals along a journey of self-discovery and growth. I assist people in gaining insight into their issues and finding solutions to their problems by providing direction, encouragement, support, and hope. In order for positive changes to occur, a person must begin to modify his or her dysfunctional thinking patterns and unhealthy behaviors. From a solution focused approach, I work with my clients in a collaborative relationship to strengthen their sense of self and improve their quality of life.

I have over 25 years experience treating adults, families, adolescents, and couples. I specialize in depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and psychotic disorders. I am a published author who has presented my research on group psychotherapy nationally and internationally. I am also a licensed massage therapist who practices mind/body work. As a past board member with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and a past member of APA's Task force on severe mental illness, I am an advocate for individuals and families who struggle with the stigma associated with these disorders. As a retired professor at Midwestern University.

My experience has allowed me to work with people from all over the world with both chronic and minor mental health concerns. As a clinician I have worked with people who have depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, (PTSD)trauma and a history of family violence. My approach is primarily cognitive behavioral with a significant emphasis on the person's present. Those who would benefit are people who are looking at moving forward with their life with more deliberation and direction. Moving away from seeing themselves as the result of their circumstances but as the master of their being.

I have been in practice for 39 years. I treat children with behavioral problems, children-teens-adults with depression, sleep disorders, panic/anxiety attacks, bipolar disorder, phobias, family conflicts, coping skills, academic issues, special education consulting, Employee Assistance, marital/couples counseling. Therapeutic approaches are designed specifically for the individual. Play therapy is generally used with children. I set goals to measure progress and modify treatment based on how goals are/are not met. I like to focus on short term therapy to teach individuals better coping skills to use outside of the office.
