“What if I feel this way forever”, said my 14 year old patient who presented to the emergency room with suicidal ideation. We sat there for a while, in silence. “What IF you feel this way forever”, I asked her. We both became quiet again. I held her hand.
I always wanted to become a therapist— someone who fixed problems & people’s lives. I quickly learned that therapy is not about fixing. It is about walking along aside one another through out the highs and lows of life, while creating new life habits and coping skills.
I worked at Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital for over 3 years. I am clinically trained to work with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. My preferred type of therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is great for individuals struggling with anxiety or mood disorders.
To my clients, I am a supporter, an advocate, a shoulder to cry on, a jokester, a friend, a voice of reason, a social worker. As a team, you & I, can work together to engage in research based therapy, like DBT or CBT, in order to develop skills to learn to manage life’s toughest situations.
