I look forward to exploring your concerns, fears and needs in a supportive therapeutic environment. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families addressing substance abuse, relationship, mood issues ( depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc). I often work with family members who have trouble motivating a loved one to consider treatment, or who want to learn about their loved one's condition and how to best support them. I value maintaining relationships with other providers, including psychiatrists, other therapists such as group therapists, couple therapists, inpatient treatment facilities, etc. as part of maintaining good coordination of your care as necessary.

My areas of clinical specialization include emerging adulthood, working with first generation college students, gender & sexual identity exploration, and treating individuals with chronic mood disorders, coping with bereavement, losses and traumatic life experiences.
Anyone seeking psychotherapy needs to sense a therapist's ability to deeply connect, to foster real vulnerability, without feeling judged. Some people desire help during personal crises or from a wish to grow. Others recognize a need for therapy after feeling stuck. Therapy can address symptoms that are more chronic in nature, which interfere with relationships or life satisfaction. Some people look for short-term therapy, to focus quickly on solution-oriented work, while others may feel more confusion about where to begin, needing time and support to clarify complicated thoughts and feelings. Together, we will develop your goals.

Feeling stuck in life? Maybe it's time to get some help. Do you find yourself getting sad or angry at confusing moments in your life? Do others find you to be "primarily angry," "often sad," or in some other way dominated by one particular feeling? Expressing and/or making sense of negative emotions is sometimes challenging. I help people examine, understand, and process their feelings so that they can be more productive and self-secure. I am also particularly skilled in helping people with life and career transition problems.

Accepting new clients for video sessions during COVID-19 shut-down. While the coronavirus outbreak impacts each of us, individuals who have experienced prior traumatic events, and those predisposed to depression, anxiety, and traumatic stress response, are uniquely vulnerable. Managing these conditions in the context of a complex global health crisis presents a unique challenge. With over 18 years of professional practice, and a specific background, focused on the intersection of mental health, infectious diseases, and complex medical concerns, I feel that I am uniquely capable of helping clients/patients confront that challenge.

I believe healing involves knowing all aspects of oneself more deeply, and in doing so, recognizing, honoring and cultivating compassion towards both how we came to be, and who we can become. My approach is relational and collaborative. I work with clients to build a space that is safe and connected enough to engage with the challenges that foster growth. We exist in context. I am passionate about the intersection of an individual’s sense of self and the larger culture, communities, and social structures in which we live. Mood Disorder is a clinical term given to a group of diagnoses in the DSM IV guide where an imbalance in someone's mood (e.g. hyper or depressed) is the main underlying feature of their condition. Mood Disorder may also be referred to as Mood Affective Disorder. And bipolar disorder (BD), which used to be known as manic depression and is characterized by periods of mania or hypomania, interlaced with depressive episodes.

Seasonal Affective Mood Disorder or Seasonal Mood Disorder (SAD) is generally included within the former type/group as it's not characterized by hyper or manic moods.
