individual therapy--marriage/couples therapy --- professors, college and graduate students ---sexual abuse --- gay/lesbian/queer community -- family of origin issues -- mood problems--personality patterns/dysfunctions .
It's hard being a person. We all struggle to some extent in fundamental areas of human life-- relationships, identity, work, destructive behaviors, the meaning of life itself. Satisfying marriage/committed relationships are a specific challenge faced by many. I work in both individual and couples therapy. There are many ways to approach human problems, including: how family of origin influences personality; one's relationship to one's thoughts and feelings; self-defeating beliefs, both conscious and unconscious; self-defeating behavior. I value thoughtfulness and compassion, working together, and recognizing your goals and ideas.

If you are someone who feels different, misunderstood, like you don't "belong"; who constantly feels like you do not have permission to be yourself; who suffers from anxiety, mood disorders, dissociation, or personality disorders, I want to help you feel seen, heard, worthy, and accepted. I use a Strengths-Based approach to help you find and feel the permission to be yourself, and through such, be able to heal the symptoms of mental illness that have presented themselves in your body and in your life. I also help folks who are energetically sensitive, and those suffering through spiritual awakenings. Currently via Telehealth.

I help individuals understand how and why they are struggling with an anxious or depressed mood, and give them powerful tools for living much more effective & much more comfortably!.
Being a human being can be quite challenging! There's a saying about the mind: 'the mind is a good servant, but a cruel taskmaster!' Many of us never learned how to calm our minds, limit our worrying, and self-soothe. Mindfulness training is one of the most researched methods for learning to do this. My work with individuals helps them to become skilled in this way, and to lessen the grip of attitudes and beliefs that limit us in significant ways. I work with individuals in this way, as well as with groups.

Mental health is as important as physical health. We live in a society in which we experience trauma and are confronted with major stressors. We have not been taught how to cope in healthy ways. I work with people to develop strategies to minimize distress by identifying and implementing healthy coping mechanisms to use throughout their lifetime. I believe that the client/therapist relationship is central to a person's ability to change and grow. My practice is informed by mindfulness and non judgmental. Mood Disorder is a clinical term given to a group of diagnoses in the DSM IV guide where an imbalance in someone's mood (e.g. hyper or depressed) is the main underlying feature of their condition. Mood Disorder may also be referred to as Mood Affective Disorder. Two types of mood disorders (or mood affective disorders) are broadly recognized; there are depressive disorders, such as major depressive disorder (MDD), clinical depression or major depression. And bipolar disorder (BD), which used to be known as manic depression and is characterized by periods of mania or hypomania, interlaced with depressive episodes.
