Life demands so much from us on a daily basis. Our bosses want more of our time, our partners are slow to show love but quick to start an argument, and our families always seem to ask for more. Therapy is your space to escape from these demands, to take a breath and realign with who you truly are. I am passionate about helping clients illuminate ways they may enhance their relationships, embrace their true self, and gain the self-confidence needed to thrive in life. For those who utilize psychedelic medicine to facilitate healing, we can explore integration and prep work together.

Are you worried about your teen, pre-teen or young child? Perhaps your child is struggling with behavioral or emotional issues and typical parenting isn't working. All children and situations are different: sometimes parents need assistance and other times the child needs counseling. As a parent, and having successfully helped hundreds of families, I understand your frustrations and concerns. My goal is to help you clarify the issues, learn how to overcome them, and help your family. I use a variety of methods to help children express themselves as well as identify, cope, and manage their expressions and behaviors.

"How we do anything is how we do everything." We move through life in a distinct way that was shaped before we can remember, reinforces itself everyday, and inevitably leads to the same problems despite our best efforts to change. Do anxiety and depression color your everyday experience? Has addiction taken hold of your life? Do you struggle to build satisfying relationships? Through courageous self-exploration, I can help you find compassion for yourself and come to understand why you encounter the same issues again and again. Building this understanding and taking responsibility for your life can empower you to heal and grow.

Resiliency describes a person's ability to survive, and even thrive, in the face of extraordinary challenges and adversities. I believe that each client, no matter their age or the challenges they face, exhibits a great deal of resiliency before ever beginning therapy. My approach focuses on harnessing each client's unique strengths to help them accomplish the positive, lasting changes they most desire. While the goals of the child or young person are the central focus of treatment, I often work closely with parents/caregivers to enhance communication, strengthen relationships, and foster ongoing systems of support.

I specialize in working with individual adults who, despite success they may be experiencing in many aspects of their lives, are feeling depressed and/or anxious, and who may have reached a point where their life lacks a sense of purpose and meaning. Ideally, clients I work with are willing to explore their past for the purpose of identifying patterns in the way they have behaved and felt, and for the purpose of understanding how these patterns may have developed. Then, I will help you identify specific changes you may want to consider to help you move forward.

I practice a holistic approach as emotions and behaviors are not only related to external environment and experiences, but are influenced by overall wellbeing. We function best when our bodies and brains are healthy and well balanced. My work with children and adolescents has informed my practice with adults as early experiences influence adult perceptions and decisions. I practice with a developmental perspective. My initial career in nursing informs my perspective to treat body, mind and spirit as a whole. Along with adult psychotherapy, I am committed to children and adolescents who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and learning difficulties.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

Everyone does the best they can with what they possess. However, life poses substantial struggles that can lead to a state where change is necessary. It is usually a difficult thing to seek assistance, however, it is an act of courage and humility rather than that of weakness. Seeking to find solace, relief, and understanding is human. Overcoming the barriers that block us from connecting to others is the first step in change. I look forward to being present and participating in your journey of understanding, of change, of acceptance, of integration; of reclamation of self.

Depressed & anxious adults who are self-critical and self-shaming and couples who bicker and get entangled easily are the populations I serve. Childhood roots of these patterns are explored, while clients learn to replace criticism and shame with kindness. Clients learn to "sit still" with emotions, rather than avoiding uncomfortable feelings through compulsive, "busy", or destructive behaviors. This process assists clients in reducing depression and anxiety, while increasing self-confidence, assertiveness, creativity, and tolerance for intimacy. Couples learn to communicate feelings and needs without using attacking words, and learn how to dis-entangle from eachother after "buttons" have been pushed.

You make it through the day to day but inside you’re fearful, anxious or depressed. You’re bottling things up and lashing out at seemingly insignificant things later. The demands of your job & personal life are starting to feel like too much to juggle even though you’ve always been good at juggling it all. It doesn’t seem like something you can talk about. Everyone thinks you have it all together and besides you feel ashamed. Holding all this in is starting to make you feel lonely. You know life should be different but you’re overwhelmed and you wonder how everyone else seems to do it so easily.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
