Our society teaches us to value independence, confidence and productivity – sometimes to the detriment of our relationships and our own sense of self-worth. Almost daily we are bombarded with narrowly defined gender roles, and ‘rules’ around how we should look, act, think and feel. We enjoy collaborating with clients to reconsider the boundaries of their lives, how they create meaningful relationships, and in doing so, identify their preferred ways of engaging with the world.

Our team's therapy approach is client-centered, compassionate, honoring of your values and lived experiences, and focused on the changes you would like to make in your life. We draw from Narrative Therapy practices and Solution-Focused principles to support you in re-writing your personal story and overcoming the challenges that keep you feeling stuck.

Before becoming a therapist, Avani's Founder, Mona Klausing, worked as an international marketing and PR executive for 20 years in the tech industry. This experience gave her an opportunity to witness firsthand the stress and other negative effects of ‘corporate America’ and in conforming to social norms and pressures that don’t fit our own ideas of self.

Common Threads: Weaving & Wellness Circle

This FREE 6-week weaving and wellness program is designed for teen girls ages 13–18 and meets once a week. Teens will learn the art of weaving while gathering in supportive listening circles. The program fosters creativity and connection with the intention to reduce stress. Sessions are co-facilitated by a weaving instructor and professionals from Avani Counseling. With hands engaged in the rhythm of the loom, participants have space to explore the stories shaping their lives — stories about friendships, stress, emotions, and challenges of everyday teen life. Dates: April 23 to May 28, 2026.
