My approach involves empathically engaging with your past, present, and future to increase self-empowerment and identify new paths toward thriving. The process of therapy is a collaboration between the client and clinician, but you will be the ultimate agent of change in your life. At the heart of my process, I use sensitive-inquiry and mindfulness-based practices to nudge you toward an integrated relationship with yourself. I will encourage you to feel deeply, tune into the physical sensations of your emotions, and find meaning-making systems. Self-compassion is a primary emphasis in my work.

As a dual diagnosis/co-occurring psychotherapist, (licensed mental health counselor and licensed substance use disorder professional) my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges. By applying specific therapeutic approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life and incorporate healthy coping skills.

Victor L. Steffens, Jr., Ph.D., LMHC, CDP: My interests in psychotherapy and healing are broad and much of my training as a psychotherapist is as well: significant training in Psychodynamic/Psychoanalysis, EMDR, Gestalt Psychotherapy, Psychodrama/Sociometry/Group psychotherapy and a number of different modalities that include a cognitive behavioral perspective. My areas of focus in treatment include: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other anxiety disorders; Drug and Alcohol use disorders including Co-occurring disorders (Dual Diagnosis); Mood disorders (Depression, Bi-Polar), Personality Disorders, and Adjustment Disorders, I primarily treat adults ages 18-75 and adolescents, in addition to couples.

I have over 35 years of service in individual, couples and group counseling. I am a compassionate friend, open to healing your heart and opening your mind by deepening spirit and celebrating the Real You. I have worked in community mental health centers, schools and private practice facilitating domestic violence offender programs, recovery programs, anger management programs, protective non-risk parenting groups, providing spiritual, emotional, cognitive and behavioral counseling to individuals. I love working with individuals around issues of trauma, relationships, and emotional regulation.

Life is hard; no one said it would be easy. Nothing that has value comes easily. It seems the things that can bring us lasting joy are the things we have to work to achieve. We are all unique in history. Where we come from, which family, which culture, impacted who we are and who we will or have become. Yet, all of us are the same in that we need human interaction. We come into this world seeking others, touch, interaction. We are neither meant to be or have to be completely alone. *(I am an approved WA State Supervisor and am currently taking on LMHCA supervisees).

I enjoy my work as a psychotherapist even more today then I did when I started over 20 years ago. There is so much power and insight that comes from a truly authentic relationship between therapist and client. You, the client, can then take what is learned in the safety of the therapeutic relationship out into the world full of Other relationships and feel equipped to navigate them in a way that is aligned with who you are. Whether it's your self as a mother, daughter, brother, or son, there is meaning to unfold in everything you do.
