If you are seeking significant change in your life, this is the place to be. Weight loss, relationship issues, substance use, anxiety, and depression are all issues based on dysfunctional patterns. In one year, I was able to turn my life around physically, emotionally, spiritually, and vocationally and start living the life of my dreams…Breaking out of the cycle is possible!

Too often substance use is treated with a one size fits all approach.
I believe that lasting change is a process and not an event. Whether you interested in establishing sobriety, addressing relapse, or have been sober for a while and want to work on underlying issues, I welcome you. I believe that most often substance use is a symptom of underlying issues and people are self-medicating. If these issues are not addressed a person will relapse. I specialize in co-occurring disorders including Depression, Bi-polar Disorder, Anxiety and Trauma. I have over twenty years of both personal and professional experience in addiction recovery.

My specialties are stress, substance use, anxiety, depression, & self-esteem building.
Hello! I graduated with both my Bachelors & Masters in Social Work from ASU. As a therapist, I am an advocate for your therapy goals and self-worth. When we feel worthless at our core, we abuse ourselves in numerous ways, including drug abuse/alcoholism, toxic relationships, overeating, self-harm behaviors, letting others use & abuse us, settling for less than our potential, negative self-talk, overworking, etc. “We accept the love we feel we deserve.” When we feel we have value, we make self-respecting decisions and act from a place of self-love. You can heal!

I often work with adults, teenagers and couples who struggle with self-esteem, trauma, grief, substance use, depression, and anxiety.
Healing is messy, and it’s also beautiful! You may feel stuck in a cycle that’s painful and no longer serves you, or you have a desire to look further inward. No matter the reason that brought you, I am glad you are here. It is 100% okay to ask for help, no matter what people have told you. Challenges are inevitable in life and are often a cue to action. When challenges go unresolved or unaddressed, they may get in the way of how you feel about yourself. The good news is there are many things you can learn and unlearn about yourself and the world you live in. I will support you through that learning and healing process.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
