I specialize in working with
women
who are struggling with anxiety, mood disorders, grief/loss, life transitions and relationship issues.
My desire is to offer you a safe, non-judgmental space to share your story, and to provide empathetic listening in order to gain insight into your relationships and coping patterns, so that you can begin to thrive and not just survive. I believe counseling is a partnership in which we work together in developing and implementing a plan to reach YOUR goals. Each person is unique and different, and I adjust according to each person's needs. I believe that authenticity and empathy are the two most important things for a counselor to possess. In addition, I am always learning new techniques and tools to help my client's grow.

You are a successful career
woman
who is fighting anxiety every stinking day. You say “yes” without considering your schedule or your needs. You worry all of the time about what others think about you and you tend to act differently depending on who you are around. You are scared of being rejected or abandoned, and you spend way too much time in your head replaying conversations you’ve had, fearful that you said something wrong. You doubt yourself frequently and hate to make decisions! Your body has a lot of tension and you’ve been to your doctor or an ER because you thought you were having a heart attack. Time to invest in you.

Kids just want to be heard. I empower my clients to feel comfortable opening up to tell their side of the story so I can help them to improve daily life. I have been in the field of education for 20 years (elementary/middle school teacher and current school counselor) and have learned how to build relationships with my students/clients that are comfortable and trusting. A trusting relationship is where change starts to happen! Parents are included in the process of therapy in order to have a full circle approach to tackling the child's biggest challenges. My focus is on children, adolescents and young adult age groups.

Being a mom is agonizing when your child’s struggling. You’ve done your best and don’t know what else to do. Love mixes with pain and it feels like your heart is breaking. Sometimes kids get clinging, tearful and whiny. Sometimes they get rude and disrespectful. Sometimes they meltdown because they can’t hold it together. Sometimes they’re anxious and sometimes they’re depressed. Whatever you’re facing, it’s hard. I remember. I’m a mom. I got the looks, the unkind remarks in the grocery store. It hurt. There were times when I lost my temper and felt the mom guilt. And I discovered a way to alter the course of our story for good.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
