After retiring as Director of Counseling at Lindenwood University, I moved to Warren County; now in Troy. Videotherapy from my home office only. I've been an LPC in Missouri since 1987, and the author of two books. I very much enjoy working with clients; I have a professional, energetic, friendly style. As a systems therapist, I approach clients in an interdependent manner... never in isolation. When working with individual clients, I am mindful of how their myriad relationships affect them...and how they affect others. I think of all clients psycho-biologically. IFS, spirituality, CBT, and microdose ketamine therapy are utilized.

Throughout my work in several therapeutic environments, I realized people come to therapy for many reasons. Typically, people are not happy with something and it affects important parts of their life. They want to feel better and be in a happier place but they don’t have the tools to change things. I have amassed a clinical toolbox over the years and will suggest certain strategies to help you improve your situation

I have a passion for helping, and strongly feel that building a connection - a supportive, therapeutic relationship - is critical and essential for counseling to be most effective. You will find in me a genuine person, and genuinely caring. I want to help you either overcome and conquer your struggle, or find a way to make life worth living - learning, practicing, and using "tools" that can elevate you to truly living from merely surviving. I've helped hundreds of people to find joy and new purpose, and I want to help you, too.

When life hurts, things like joy, hope, and resilience can feel impossible—but it doesn’t have to. You may feel worn down by anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, or intense emotions, and tired of carrying it alone. You might feel stuck, uncertain, or disconnected from yourself, while still hoping something could change. You’re looking for a therapist who is warm, affirming, and collaborative. Someone who listens closely and doesn’t rush or judge. And together, we'll create that space where possibility exists.

I began working in the counseling field 25 years ago. I work with individuals, couples, and families to help them heal from the difficulties of life and develop their full potential. I spent the first 7 of those years working in the addiction field. That experience gave me knowledge, insight, and compassion for individuals struggling with addictions. I also have a passion for helping couples develop strong, healthy, loving, and trusting marriages. As an adoptive father I understand the issues and challenges faced by adoptive parents. I'm experienced in treating depression, anxiety, anger, grief, and issues related to codependency.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected—from yourself or others—you'e not alone. Many of the people I work with find themselves navigating anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, or a season of life that feels confusing or heavy. Often, they are thoughtful, self-aware individuals who want greater clarity, emotional balance, and a deeper sense of freedom. They are seeking a safe place to slow down, feel understood, and explore what may be getting in the way of living more fully and honestly.

Hello and welcome. For nearly 10 years I have been in practice and have worked in a variety of settings. During this time I have had the privilege of working with some incredible people and have learned a lot about myself and the process of counseling when it comes to relationships with others and the relationship we have with ourselves. If you are searching for a provider who can effectively address issues within a marriage, family, or any other form of relationship than I would be happy to speak with you!

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
