Prevention is always preferred. In life the saying goes 'luck favors the prepared'. In counseling, you are most effective when you can prevent struggles compared to reacting to them after they have begun. At Awaken360, we recognize that you and your family may recognize subtle changes in one another before anyone else does. At Awaken360 our heart is to reach people before struggles, mistakes, and hurt feelings begin to pile up and cause real damage not only to relationships, but your ability to have a happy life and future. We believe no situation is too far for help or repair and we seek to partner with you as you work to overcome the following struggles: histories of abuse, adoption or foster care struggles, attachment issues, infertility, stress management, marital/premarital counseling, emotional instability, impulsive or high-risk behaviors, separation or divorce, suicidal ideations, history of self harm,
substance use
/abuse, anger/aggression, involvement in judicial system, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Visit Awaken360.org to see real change that lasts and inquire about our three treatment options: Outpatient Counseling, Youth Therapeutic Academy, and Family Intensives.

My name is Denniese Dysart and my goal is to provide a casual and welcoming atmosphere while assisting you to find your own path in personal discovery and wellness. On this course I will help you identify and cope more effectively with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which may disrupt your ability to function effectively. A very important aspect of counseling is the relationship that builds between the client and the counselor. This may be the only time and place where you can take front and center stage, be actually “heard”, and be in the presence of someone who is non-judgmental.

As a therapist on staff at Synergy Executive, an RTC for men, I specialize in treating adults who are struggling with addiction. My therapeutic approach is rooted in respect for the individuality of each client and a true sense of empathy for the emotional pain that often underlies substance abuse. While fostering an atmosphere of acceptance, free of moral judgment, I attempt to meet my clients "where they're at" in terms of their degree of motivation for change. Despite the emotional and social chaos that often inhabits my clients' lives, I believe strongly in each individual's capacity for regaining stability and finding meaning.

I believe counseling is a partnership in which we work together in developing and implementing a plan to reach the clients treatment goals. Each client is unique and different, and I adjust according to the clients needs. I work well with clients who are ready to do the work to heal and grow. The client and I are active throughout the counseling process. I have found that this process is a journey towards healing and thriving in all areas of life.

Have you felt guilt or shame because life was more challenging than you expected it would be post-adoption? Have relationships been a struggle? Does someone acting "off" around you fill you with worry? Attachment issues can be a common struggle for those who have been involved in foster care/adoption. As a fellow adoptee, I too, know the confusion, pain, and feelings a lack of identity and attachment wounds can bring to this family dynamic. Therapy can provide a neutral space to process through those emotions. You can learn skills to confidently handle what life throws at you and take time to heal through the hurt in a healthy way.

Hi! I'm Maribeth, an EMDR Certified Therapist, and I'm glad you've found me! It's so important to feel a sense of connection with a therapist. My philosophy is simple - I believe that we are all born as divine lights of the universe, but that through the course of our lives, we are given messages through the words or acts of others, or sometimes even ourselves, that impact how we see ourselves and the world. My style of therapy focuses on helping people change those messages to reflect the true nature of each of us - one of wholeness. Therapy, to me, is the act of holding space for someone as they journey towards their awakening.

Many of my clients enter therapy to address the feeling of groundlessness that can occur when things fall apart. It may be an episode of significant depression or anxiety, unresolved trauma, a life changing loss such as divorce or death, or a crisis of awakening and challenging previously held understandings of the self in the world. There are many paths that take us into therapy, and I walk that path with my clients to develop a better understanding and integration to adapt to life when we find ourselves at these challenging points.

I'm not your typical counselor... You won't find me busy looking at my notes and only paying attention half the time you're talking. My style is very conversational and I'll share about myself any time it's pertinent, or when asked. I don't believe in dragging counseling out because it's expensive so why waste your time and money? You've got a problem so let's get to fixing it! The bottom line is your quality of life: it's not where you want/need it to be, and it's my job to help you improve it. My primary office is in Springfield, MO with a secondary location in Chesterfield, MO a few days a week.

As of 06/01/23 I will be switching to telehealth only. Life can present us with many unwanted and unexpected situations. Sometimes, it can be a traumatic situation, or maybe you are dealing with a child who has become withdrawn, not speaking, and is not socializing with the family. Perhaps you have some past trauma that has not been fully explored or resolved, or anxiety about the future. Whatever the circumstances, counseling may be able to help. I have worked with clients of all ages and with many different issues, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD as well as with patients experiencing past and current trauma.

I look forward to working with clients whose life path may have created difficulties for them that has led them not be the best of who they can be. Each individual's path may have been sprinkled with physical or emotional abuse, neglect, assault, grief and loss, domestic violence, marital or parental discord or a myriad of other situations. Sometimes these life paths create in my clients a feeling of hopeless and loss of self-worth, sometimes these path end with someone needing to determine a plan to leave an unsafe living situation. Sometimes these paths lead to turning to substances and illegal drugs to cope with the internal turmoil and pain. It is my privlege to work with clients to help them identify and bring forth the best of who they are and what they want for their life, their family and their future through their own individual strengths.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
