I look forward to working with clients whose life path may have created difficulties for them that has led them not be the best of who they can be. Each individual's path may have been sprinkled with physical or emotional abuse, neglect, assault, grief and loss, domestic violence,
marital
or parental discord or a myriad of other situations. Sometimes these life paths create in my clients a feeling of hopeless and loss of self-worth, sometimes these path end with someone needing to determine a plan to leave an unsafe living situation. Sometimes these paths lead to turning to substances and illegal drugs to cope with the internal turmoil and pain. It is my privlege to work with clients to help them identify and bring forth the best of who they are and what they want for their life, their family and their future through their own individual strengths.

I have been providing individual,
marriage
and family mental health and substance abuse counseling in Springfield, MO since 1996.
Life is full of transitions. Changes in employment, relationship status, becoming a parent, the illness or death of a loved one, relocating or developing a new health issue are some of the most challenging life transitions. Without adequate emotional support and healthy coping skills, the extra stress can lead to developing further physical and mental health problems. Depression, anxiety, insomnia, substance abuse and family conflicts can appear or worsen as a result of not having support and knowledge of how to manage life changes. I educate and support my clients as they learn to think and care for themselves in a healthier way.

You even checking out this site shows how much strength and bravery you have. Just know that you don’t have to go through things alone. We believe people seek out help when the things they do to deal with life no longer work. A lot of people think counseling is only for those who need “professional help,” but it’s really about talking to someone who is safe and not biased about what you should think or feel. You make think “there must be better out there,” — a better life, a way to feel less stressed, a happier
marriage
, a job you love… but you are just trying to survive this day.

Most of my clients are facing relational challenges due to areas that are out of balance in their lives. At the present time, I have about 100 clients. I spend much time working with people with high levels of stress, anxiety and depression. My greatest strengths are in
Marriage
& Family and Youth Counseling due to the fact that I look for root problems in the lives of people and find ways to retrain them so that they can be much more functional. I am also very effective with self-esteem issues. With additional counselors we can address substance abuse, weight management, child custody issues, divorce mediation, etc.

Whether its difficulty navigating a toxic work environment, dealing with a difficult boss, experiencing
marriage
or relationship problems, or feeling lost and alone you may need to evaluate what your needs or wants are. Your mind and body is telling you something if you are feeling stressed, feeling sad, have problems sleeping, feeling lonely even in a crowd, or getting angry over the littlest thing, its letting you know change needs to happen. We all struggle at times with trying to navigate life and I believe that we all could benefit from support. Reaching out for help is the key to working towards a healthier way of living.

If you’re longing to have a more satisfying
marriage
, then Gottman Method Couples counseling is for you.
I’m a Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist. I love working with couples. Couples just like you - missing out on the fun in life, feeling lonely, unappreciated, misunderstood, hurt, rejected, angry. Couples who are really doing their very best to make it work, but who keep ending up in the same old destructive patterns. You’re in the same house, but you feel miles and miles away from each other. You’re in charge, in control, and confident at work, but when you get home, these feelings start slipping away and you start wondering, "How did we get here?" "When did we start avoiding each other?" "I miss the way we used to be."

Prevention is always preferred. In life the saying goes 'luck favors the prepared'. In counseling, you are most effective when you can prevent struggles compared to reacting to them after they have begun. At Awaken360, we recognize that you and your family may recognize subtle changes in one another before anyone else does. At Awaken360 our heart is to reach people before struggles, mistakes, and hurt feelings begin to pile up and cause real damage not only to relationships, but your ability to have a happy life and future. We believe no situation is too far for help or repair and we seek to partner with you as you work to overcome the following struggles: histories of abuse, adoption or foster care struggles, attachment issues, infertility, stress management,
marital
/premarital counseling, emotional instability, impulsive or high-risk behaviors, separation or divorce, suicidal ideations, history of self harm, substance use/abuse, anger/aggression, involvement in judicial system, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Visit Awaken360.org to see real change that lasts and inquire about our three treatment options: Outpatient Counseling, Youth Therapeutic Academy, and Family Intensives.

What a Stressful world we are living in today! Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. In a society that values hard work over mental health, it can be difficult to carve out time for yourself. As challenging as it is, you deserve to find balance and peace in your life. There is a way to find happiness again and to improve relationships with the ones you love. It is my passion to teach self-love, acceptance, relaxation techniques, and empowerment to women, couples, and families. With this in mind, we will uncover root causes of suffering and work towards healing and solutions.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
