I have worked with individuals that have been victims of trauma, teens that struggled with compulsive behavior & emotional distress, families that struggle to overcome their differences, adults that want more out of life & to worry less, &

Struggling relationships, difficult transitions, and heavy losses can feel exhausting, confusing, burdensome, and at times, unbearable. Sometimes, we need a safe and confidential space where we feel supported, understood, and can learn to move forward. I approach counseling with the belief that you possess innate dignity and worth, and it’s my priority to help you feel heard and valued as you tell your story and share your struggles. As we engage with the experiences that have brought you here, I believe that hope and growth await you, and it is possible to live your life in the ways that you long for.

Life, with all of its obligations, can feel so heavy. And when you’re disconnected from your
partner
, life feels even heavier. Maybe you’re afraid, deep down, that your
partner
no longer wants the life you’ve created with them. Maybe you worry that you constantly disappoint them. Perhaps the lack of sexual intimacy in your
relationship
has hurt for too long. When you’ve lost your connection to your person, it seems painfully impossible to get back on track, especially if there have been years of hurt and disconnection.

As an adult, you experience the intense anxiety of being the "perfect"
spouse
, parent, and/or adult child. You may be tired of feeling unseen, unheard, and alone. You might experience reoccurring intrusive thoughts of “am I messing it all up?” or "am I making the right parenting/life choices?" Even worse, the difficulty in saying "no" means far more on your plate than possible. Feeling anything else may seem like a distant memory. But one thing is for sure: you're ready for some relief! You're ready to feel seen and heard! But most of all you're ready to feel safely and securely connected to the most important people in your life!

When working with
relationship
situations, I believe personal responsibility is the key to happiness.
Whether you are in a marriage that is struggling, having a problem personally with substances, or just need some help clearing out the clutter in your life, my approach to counseling comes from many different counseling theories. I believe that it is important to focus on the here and now, emphasizing future actions, behaviors, and thoughts, rather than deeply exploring the past. While the past has brought us where we are today, how you believe today and how you act today is of more importance. I believe in being directive and intentional in all aspects of therapy.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
