In one of his most famous poems, Walt Whitman says, “I contain multitudes.” And I think we all do–we contain many selves that have been born out of our life experiences, from joyful moments to painful ones. Some parts of our selves we really love and cherish; others, we may fear or distrust. By spending time with our parts, approaching them with curiosity and compassion, we can learn to accept, love, and learn from all of our parts, who, together, make us who we are. In this process, we also learn how to advocate for ourselves, how to heal from trauma , and how to love others.

Areas of experience include: couples and families in crisis; facing transition; clergy & military dynamics; bereavement; depression; abuse survivors; trauma ; relationship and communication difficulties.
I have enjoyed working as a partner in mental health and wellness for over 20 years. It is my hope that as I walk alongside the client he or she will recognize strengths, develop skills, and embrace healing. While I have specialized training in some complex issues, much of the work of a counselor is helping people deal with the everyday struggles most of us face on a daily basis.

Drawing from my work in queer and immigrant communities, and in residential and outpatient settings, I specialize in trauma , attachment injuries, identity exploration, and eating disorders.
The systems we live within (capitalism, racism, sexism, fatphobia, etc.) and our early attachment experiences can leave us feeling disconnected from others, our bodies, our values, and our authentic selves. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore with you and acknowledge the ways these systems have impacted and neglected you. Together, we'll develop resources, skills, and insights to make your life and relationships more manageable and meaningful.

Issues include addiction, depression, anxiety, ptsd , relationships, and habit control.
2021, and the task of therapy is understanding the "mood" behind the mask that we all must wear. Isolated from friends, we struggle to work and manage family responsibilities within the walls of our home without the balance we would receive from our workplace, our gym, our clubs, or our church. Therapy is now online...but this format comes easily over a safe format allowing a relaxing and professional conversation in my online therapy office. You will be heard, and come away with strategies for managing your moods and recognizing possibilities in your current situation. You are not alone! Sign up for therapy help now!

Trauma creates an internal brokenness.
Is your life out of control? Are you trapped in addictions or entangled in dysfunctional relationships? Do you find yourself feeling powerless over your anger, consumed by an unquenchable need to prove yourself, or perpetually escaping into hobbies that merely keep you entertained and feeling “good enough” for the moment? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, I would want you to know that you are not a “bad” person, that freedom is possible, and that you don’t have to keep going at it alone. I’d also want you to know that these behaviors are normal ways in which the human heart responds to trauma .

Anxiety and past trauma have kept you playing small, but in your heart you know that life can be so much bigger! You’re ready to wrestle with anxiety, shine a light on hurts and hardships of the past, and begin living life on your own terms. It feels like you’ve been waiting forever, unsure if the timing is right, but now you realize that “ready” might never happen, and you’re willing to try anyway. You're dreaming of a life where you stop second guessing yourself, where you feel connected and have a deep sense of belonging, and where you're no longer paralyzed by worries. You're ready to get back in the driver's seat of life!

I work closely with sexual and gender minority individuals (LGBTQIA+), BIPOC and immigrant/refugee populations. I specialize in working with individuals who are 18+ and who may need help with processing trauma , stabilizing emotional regulation and working towards adaptive core beliefs. I believe that oppressive structures impact a person's emotional wellbeing on a multitude of levels and that intersectional identities of a person are all important in the processing of the mental and physical wellbeing of an individual. I have provided therapeutic services for clients for nearly 15 years.

My approach involves the whole person--past and the present; mind and body, it is trauma informed and attachment focused.
Life can present us with a myriad of troubles. Sometimes we get stuck in survival mode; we’ve spent years just getting by or we’ve been knee deep in struggle. Maybe you’re tired? Tired of sadness, anger, hopelessness, physical pain, and anxiety. You’re ready for change, but need someone you can be honest with. Someone who won’t judge you, but will gently help you walk in new paths and gain the freedom and healing that you long for.

I'm motivated to work with clients who suffer from feelings of inadequacy and insecurity. This client will have a history of familial trauma or come from a dysfunctional family system. This client might struggle with accessing and communicating emotions effectively. This client may not know how this all connects but is interested in deeper healing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
