I have completed many trainings, including a two-year training in
psychodynamic
psychotherapy which has helped me become better able to guide clients to deeper levels of understanding.
From the very beginning, with sensitivity and compassion, I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space in which you can express thoughts, feelings, dreams, and desires that you may feel unable to share elsewhere. I believe that constructive change occurs when we work collaboratively to develop insight into your current struggles; only then can we find ways to help you move forward. I have experience and interest in working with adults and older adolescents with anxiety, trauma histories, creative people, and those who wish to explore various aspects of their identities, including people who are LGBTQ+.

Making a decision to enter therapy is often a step taken after much thought and consideration. Evelyn's professional experience is framed by a philosophy of trust and respect in the collaborative relationship. Clients may enter treatment at a period of life that is marked by stress, strain and pain. While this may be the presenting problem, the journey of therapy allows one to develop an understanding of the strengths as well as limitations that help or hinder life at different stages. Evelyn helps clients recognize patterns of interaction in the present that may shed insight on difficult recurring issues.

Psychodynamic
psychotherapy is radical: we will work toward uncovering the roots of your inner conflicts, instead of merely eliminating symptoms.
Do you feel as though something intangible is missing from your life, despite having met many of the metrics by which our culture defines "success"? I accompany those who are grappling with feeling stuck, inhibited, stymied by self-sabotage, or simply need a witness for their present moment. My ideal client holds the hope that psychotherapy can enrich, illuminate, and deepen the lives we already have. If you identify as "sensitive", an "overthinker", or just have had an enduring hunch that there is more to life than what is visible on the surface, our work together just might be the slow cure you need.

I am a
psychodynamic
therapist who works with you to understand the "why" within your struggles.
Life can be demanding, exhausting, and overwhelming. You may feel frustration, hopelessness, and shame when focusing on yourself. Or maybe, this isn't what you had hoped for in life, and you aren't sure what to do. It's time for something to change. Our work will focus on allowing for all sides of you to have a voice, to be understood, and to have the space to grow. Together we get to work through old patterns of being with yourself, and others, that are keeping you stuck. We will explore your interpersonal relationships, bring words to the feelings inside, and examine how you avoid distressing thoughts, emotions, and fantasies.

As a
psychodynamic
psychotherapist, I go beyond just helping clients to alleviate their current symptoms.
I work with young adults and adults who struggle with a variety of issues. Whether you are experiencing personal or interpersonal difficulties, sometimes you can find yourself caught in troublesome patterns of thinking and behaving. You become bogged down with distorted beliefs about yourself and the world, trapped in unfulfilling circumstances, relationships and careers, or fixated on the past. A wide range of problematic symptoms (from anxiety and depression to damaged self-esteem, emotional disorders and self-destructive behaviors) can impact your quality of life. You need help to feel positive, confident and hopeful.

I specialize in evidence based treatments such as CBT, CPT, and
Psychodynamic
Psychotherapy.
Are you interested in learning to truly love and accept all of who you are? As a psychotherapist, I have cultivated a safe space for patients to tap into their passion, inner power, and purpose. I provide a validating and non-judgmental sounding board for patients to be as honest with themselves as possible in the therapeutic process. Why? Because we cannot heal that which is not revealed. You can choose to courageously face your thoughts, emotions, and actions. This is what I like to call "leaning in" also known as embodiment. Embodiment can reduce anxiety, promote a sense of calm and foster unstoppable empowerment.

We thrive as humans when we understand ourselves. I work creatively and compassionately with children, adolescents and adults of all ages to deepen and broaden self-understanding. Emotional pain - like physical pain - is a signal that help is needed and that something must change. Psychotherapy can be that powerful catalyst for healing. I believe in meeting people where they are, listening intently, and co-creating a safe and brave space where my clients can grow.

I have extensive training as a
psychodynamic
therapist, with a focus on establishing a safe and effective relationship in order to foster insight and long-term change.
I specialize in working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, concerns related to identity, and difficulty in relationships. That said, I am open to working with people with a range of concerns who want to be more comfortable with themselves and in their lives. To me, what is most important is that I practice openly, without judgment, and with ongoing curiosity about you. I work with people across the gender and sexuality spectrums, as well as those in monogamous and poly relationships.

I specialize in
psychodynamic
therapy, integrating mindfulness and other somatic techniques to help you feel more grounded in your body.
My approach to therapy stems from the belief that feeling truly seen and understood is a basic human need. I aim to provide a safe and reflective space where you can bring your whole self without fear of judgment. We will work together in a collaborative process to understand your unique experiences and how they've impacted you, figure out where you may be stuck, and help you take back the reins. I work with people, not diagnoses, and take a strengths-based approach to help individuals of all ages gain self-awareness, curiosity, inspiration and hope.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
