I have felt a certain pull in my heart to work with men and first responders. I understand many of the pressures and struggles associated with being a man in our society. Navigating emotions can be tricky, especially when societal standards only deem some emotions as "acceptable" for men! I also have an interest in working with first responders, as generations of my family have been in that field. Growing up in a family of first responders I have seen the toll that working in these careers can have on an individual as well as their family. The world can be a tough place at times, so I will do my best to help you find a way forward

I am a professional counselor who strongly believes that we can heal ourselves through a shift in our thought patterns, behaviors & mindset. I enjoy working with Black men and women who are struggling with the longterm aftermath of childhood trauma leading to increased experiences with anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD & maladaptive attachment styles. I start the therapeutic experience by exploring your family history & build connections to current disruptive & unhealthy patterns impacting your mental health. I empathize with those struggling with change due to previous traumas, learned maladaptive thoughts, patterns & beliefs.

Life is challenging. So many ebbs and flows. I recognize that and would love to help you on your journey. We can all use a little support from time to time. Relationships can be difficult to manage. Setting (and keeping) boundaries at home, at work, or within relationships is hard work. If you or your child are looking for support with issues such as anxiety, depression, bullying, domestic violence, abuse or trauma, I'd love to help. I use creative therapy techniques in-person and via tele-health to support you or your child.

It takes guts to ask for help. Going to therapy is not admitting defeat or a sign that you are weak. It is an act of self-kindness & sign that you are ready to make meaningful changes happen for yourself. Change can be scary but if you are ready, you don’t have to do it alone. My mission as a therapist is to support you throughout the process of self-discovery and help you to build enough confidence to chase after and reach your goals. Together we can examine how fear, societal expectations and a need for others' approval may be limiting your ability to lead a life that allows you to flourish and reach your full potential.

Life can present us with a myriad of troubles. Sometimes we get stuck in survival mode; we’ve spent years just getting by or we’ve been knee deep in struggle. Maybe you’re tired? Tired of sadness, anger, hopelessness, physical pain, and anxiety. You’re ready for change, but need someone you can be honest with. Someone who won’t judge you, but will gently help you walk in new paths and gain the freedom and healing that you long for.

Positive Psychology Therapists
How does positive psychology therapy work?
Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.
When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?
If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?
The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.
Is positive psychology effective in therapy?
Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
