My foundation is in Positive Psychology and the PERMA-V Model of well-being.
I am one of the most open-minded, non-judgmental people you will ever work with. Many times, clients have begun sessions afraid and timid about sharing details of their life with me. Once they get to know me, they understand that they are truly in a judgment-free zone. I am curious about you, your life, and what brought you to therapy. I have worked with a wide range of clients from adults in custody with substance use disorders to vulnerable populations with serious mental illness. Whatever the problem is, we can tackle it together.

Through counseling, I strive to help individuals work through whatever challenges they may be experiencing and toward their individual mental health goals. I currently work with children, adolescents, and young adults. Some of my focus areas include anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, emotional regulation and awareness, and general life adjustments. I utilize different therapeutic approaches best suited for each individual client, including cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered theory, dialectical behavioral therapy, and positive psychology.

I specialize in working with adults living with anxiety and/or struggles in their relationships (familial, romantic, platonic, occupational). Breast cancer survivorship is an area of specialty. Together we co-construct an approach that fits your needs, balancing the practical with exploratory. I believe that it is through self-exploration that you become aware of your stuck points whether in problematic and/or unfulfilling behavior, relationships, jobs, or experiences.

If you’ve been longing to develop a deeper understanding of self and others in the context of a more longterm, intimate therapeutic relationship—one in which you are free and encouraged to be your authentic self, we may very well be a good fit. I’m certified in existential-humanistic therapy from the Existential-Humanistic Institute in California, and while I do incorporate other modalities of therapy, I take a predominantly philosophical approach, focusing on the human condition and how we might best navigate a variety of existential concerns that may hinder us from living fully—engaging in self-sabotage for example.

The therapeutic relationship is one of healing and hope. Facilitating that relationship is very important because I understand the value of working with someone not pushing their usually well-intentioned agenda onto your situation. Someone outside our problems who has no investment in how we handle those problems can offer limitless perspective and an abundance of compassion. In addition to being a listening ear, therapists have many resources and tools to help us navigate whatever challenges and changes life throws at us. This is the type of therapist I strive to be.

I love my job! I am so lucky that somehow, I naturally am on a path to help other people. Luckily, the good in each person shines through to me. I want you to see that and feel that in yourself and for others to see your amazing inner light too. Sometimes just talking is so helpful, but I also have training in EMDR which is truly effective for big or small traumas. I can also work in conjunction with an existing therapist not trained in EMDR. I am here to support you and give you clarity on how to fulfill your desires and live your life to the fullest. I work with helping you to have manageable relationships. I am here for you.

Are you just f-ing tired? A car accident left you emotionally paralyzed. An assault shook up your life. A recent medical diagnosis or crisis has you questioning what's next. All the "why" questions are flying through your head and the constant noise is driving you nuts. You want things to make sense. You want to feel like yourself again. Most of all, you want to go back in time to the thing that changed your body and do everything in your power to prevent in from happening. The problem is, no one prepared you for this and no one really understands how to help.

Do you feel like no one understands what you're going through and like you have to constantly explain yourself? We all have bumps along the road and I am here to provide you with the support needed in order to get through them. I provide therapeutic services through a "person-centered" approach and allow for clients I am working with to take the driver's seat and determine where we go and what aspects of concern we will talk about in session. I am here to listen, help you create positive change in your life, and provide you with skills necessary to handle everyday hurdles you encounter.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
