My approach is rooted in acceptance and commitment therapy and is informed by mindfulness-based approaches, positive psychology, and other models based in developmental and adult attachment theory.
You're overwhelmed with uncertainty and you're stuck in indecision. Maybe your relationship with your partner is filled with tension and conflict and you just don’t know what to do anymore. Perhaps you’re tired of constantly feeling like you have to please others to receive validation and to avoid the pain of letting people down. You've been struggling for a long time and you just need some relief. You’re ready to stop overthinking and ruminating about your problems. You’re ready to feel more connected in your relationships. Most of all, you’re ready to take action towards lasting transformation.

Serves Area
For those seeking more meaning, I lean on philosophy, positive psychology and spiritual concepts.
The clients I serve are often in a moment of transition and are unsure what the path forward looks like. They are seeking clarity, as well as relief from their symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and grief. Clients I enjoy working with understand that therapy extends beyond our scheduled time, and may include setting goals and practicing skills that grow reflection, insight and behavior change. I have seen that therapy and coaching can lead to greater self-understanding and a deeper, more dynamic framework for managing modern life and changing how we relate with ourselves and others.

I draw from evidence-based practices and have a positive psychology, solution-focused approach.
I focus my therapy work on women, teens & young adults, and athletes. Anyone who is interested in establishing healthy relationships, setting clear boundaries, and improving self-esteem and confidence may be a good fit for me. I think too many women and young adults don't know their worth, and I love helping people to see themselves as worthy of love and respect. As an athlete and marathoner, I also know what it takes to achieve excellence in athletics, and I'm here to help you take your game to the next level.

My training in Feminist therapy, Motivational interviewing, and positive psychology means I have the expertise you need and deserve.
You want to feel authentic and empowered, but you are struggling to calm insecurities and negative self-talk. You may be fed up with the constant overthinking, imposter syndrome, or that you just can’t let things go. You might even be jealous of those who seem to have it all. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to understand why this is happening. You are ready to feel confident and assertive in your life. Most of all, you’re ready to feel unbothered and happy with yourself.

While I provide individual and relationship counseling for all people, my special interest is to support marginalized populations. My primary expertise is providing counseling and supportive services for the LGBTQ+ constituency. As human beings, we all struggle with feelings of not being good enough, important enough, lovable or able to love. These feelings embed themselves very early in life producing defense mechanisms, although no longer needed, continue to operate below the surface, wreaking havoc on life, relationships and success. The battle is often a daily one; sometimes minute by minute. Don't suffer alone.

Are you struggling because of something that happened in the recent or distant past? Have you experienced something traumatic like abuse, combat, physical violence, rape or robbery? Do you view the world negatively? Have you re-experienced the past or feel like 'it's happening all over again"? Do you avoid things you used to do for fear of being reminded of the past? Do you hate when people bring it up? You may be struggling with trauma triggers.

While I take my professionalism very seriously, I'm not the vanilla therapist you see in movies and I'm not everybody's flavor. I drink too much Diet Coke, my office has power recliners, I ask the hard questions, and I cuss a little. Levity and laughter is a tool for healing, and sometimes I do that too loud. I know if I’m not real, I can’t expect you to be either. We will unravel the complexities that make you exactly who you are and arrange each piece in a way that you take pride in, at a pace you are comfortable with. Being confident and calm in your body is your birthright and I believe, wholeheartedly, in your ability to heal.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
