Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists in Saint Louis, MO
Is your child struggling with anxiety, OCD-like behaviors, or repetitive negative thinking? If so, you may feel unsure how to help. Maybe you've tried soothing them, allowing them to skip things that seem to make their anxiety worse, and reassuring them that everything will be fine, but you're worried you may be enabling their anxiety. You know what a great kid you have and it’s painful to see them struggle at school and socially. You just want them to be happy. You’ve reached a point where your child’s worry, emotional outbursts, and distress are just too much for your family to handle and you need some guidance.

I help highly sensitive people navigate our complex world with less overwhelm. My clients often struggle with feeling ungrounded. Despite being highly empathetic and wise, they might continue to feel unseen by others and feel stuck in past traumatic experiences and negative beliefs about themselves. I have worked with a range of diagnoses, though have advanced training in working with PTSD & OCD. I see people of all identities, though many of my clients are LGBTQIA+ and/or neurodivergent.

I have specialized training in evidence-based treatment for OCD, anxiety disorders and PTSD.
Living with anxiety or OCD is miserable! I have worked with anxiety and OCD for almost a decade and enjoy helping kids, teens and adults break free from the limitations and distress that anxiety creates in daily life. Often I see clients who are discouraged that talk therapy or other treatments have not been helpful. Research consistently demonstrates the importance of evidence-based treatment for moderate to severe anxiety and OCD. Exposure and response prevention (ERP) is essential for successful treatment.

If you find yourself continuing to struggle with obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, PTSD symptoms or anxiety, please do not hesitate to call.
As an OCD, Trauma, and Anxiety specialist, I am here to tell you that you do not have to continue to suffer from the pervasive and agonizing obsessive thoughts associated with OCD, nor do you need to continue to carry the trauma of the past with you. The thoughts, emotions, and self concepts continue to follow, despite the fact that time passes, and despite how much you KNOW that the obsessive thoughts are unnecessary, you seem to not be able to break free from them. If it seems as though no matter what you KNOW about life, there is a struggle to feel differently, I want you to know that this can change.

I am committed to helping you overcome OCD and live the life you deserve.
My approach to treating OCD starts with accepting you where you are and taking a non-judgmental stance. We'll identify your triggers and fears to determine what changes are needed. Gradually, I'll introduce you to incremental exposures of feared events, beliefs, or experiences, helping you learn to manage the discomfort without resorting to compulsions. My team at NOCD and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for people with OCD. Additionally, we have received intensive training ERP—the gold standard treatment for OCD.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
