I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been in the community mental health field for over 25 years. I have spent my professional career focused on trauma with children, adolescents, adults, and families in various areas of life including hospice, grief/loss, child abuse/neglect, substance abuse, parental alienation/termination of parental rights/family reintegration, juvenile justice, and sexual trauma. One of the things that I enjoy most about my work is being witness to my clients learning how to undo years of negative experiences and finding their hopeful path forward.

With a passion for helping people find wholeness and healing, I love helping women work through complicated familial relationships. This typically looks like a deep and confusing mother child relationship, maybe a partner who has betrayed you or emotional, spiritual or physical abuse from a parter or parent. I know what it's like to feel alone or maybe you have been told you are too much or not enough. If you are searching for answers or know what you are looking for, I’d love to meet you where you are and talk about what healing could look like for you.

Many people I work with have been in therapy before, but it didn't go deep enough. They still feel anxious, depressed, or unsure of themselves, and are stuck in old patterns in relationships with others and themselves. I work particularly well with people who have difficult relationships with a parent, those who experienced a lot of chaos as children, young adults, new parents and LGBTQ folks, but I work well with anyone who wants to understand themselves better. I can help you get to the root of your problems instead of only looking at the surface-level symptoms.

Feminist Therapy in Missouri. Everyday, women & queer people navigate a world that doesn't honor our identities & doesn't prioritize our needs or our safety. Trying to build a healthy, authentic life within these structures that don't value our wellbeing is incredibly hard. Often we need support to get through everything that comes our way. If you're struggling to stay afloat or feel like you're carrying too much, you don't have to do it all alone.

Part of being human is the inevitability of encountering difficulty. Most of us accept this quite easily, but it is harder for us to accept *ourselves* while we face that difficulty! So many of our experiences in our families and our culture train us to ignore or get rid of our emotions, so space or compassion for ourselves seem next to impossible. Together and with mutual vulnerability and creativity, my heartfelt wish is to effectively nurture and challenge you, and to help you discover resources within and without to meet your experiences with strength, clarity, and hope.

Many of us feel lost, uncertain, or disconnected from our sense of self, as well as feel worn down or angry at the systems and expectations around us. Many of my clients are thoughtful, creative people who struggle with self-doubt and are searching for clarity, meaning, or permission to take up space. I have specialized experience working with disenfranchised communities, including survivors of domestic and sexual violence, individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community, and those in the perinatal process. I am particularly interested in expanding my work with queer parents and those building families outside of traditional norms.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered / Board Certified Art Therapist working with adults, adolescents, and children. My approach to therapy begins with forming a safe, therapeutic relationship that allows you to explore life transitions, emotional pain, or other symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, addiction, or eating disorders. We will move beyond symptom management and help you to identify and develop understanding of the deeper meaning of the presenting symptoms. Often, the symptoms are external manifestations of conflicts and core beliefs rooted in the inner world or attempts to avoid the pain of past and current life experiences.

My work is focused on creating a safe, warm, and inviting space for individuals and couples to receive therapy. I also enjoy working with individuals. You may be struggling with interpersonal issues. You may feel unsure of your identity and of the things you want in life. For both couples and individuals, my job is to walk with you on the path toward happiness and contentedness.

FAQ - Miscarriage Counseling
How do I know if I need therapy after pregnancy loss?
Pregnancy loss can bring intense emotional and physical changes. While there is no “right” way to feel afterward, many people experience deep sadness, anxiety, anger, guilt, or numbness. These reactions are common, especially in the days and weeks after a loss. However, if these feelings begin to interfere with daily life, relationships, sleep, work, or your ability to care for yourself, therapy may be helpful. Therapy may also be a good next step if you feel stuck in guilt or self-blame, or if your grief feels overwhelming or prolonged. Most importantly, you do not have to wait for symptoms to feel severe to seek help. Therapy can provide support at any point after pregnancy loss and may also help with related concerns, such as anxiety, depression, relationship stress, or fear about a future pregnancy.
How can therapy help after miscarriage?
Therapy can offer a supportive space to process the grief, shock, anger, guilt, or numbness that may follow a miscarriage. A therapist can help validate the loss, support you in coping with painful reminders or memories, and reduce self-blame. Miscarriage and other forms of pregnancy loss can also increase the risk of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A therapist can help you understand your symptoms and provide targeted support based on what you are experiencing. Pregnancy loss can also affect relationships. Partners may grieve differently, which can lead to misunderstanding, emotional distance, or conflict. Therapy can help individuals or couples communicate more openly, understand each other’s reactions, and support each other through the loss.
What therapeutic approaches are used for pregnancy loss?
The best therapeutic approach depends on what the person is struggling with most. If trauma symptoms are a major concern, approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) may help people process distressing memories connected to the loss. If intrusive thoughts, guilt, or anxiety are the main concern, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help people identify painful thought patterns and develop coping strategies to manage them. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can help people make space for painful emotions while reconnecting with their values.
Can couples therapy help after a pregnancy loss?
Couples therapy can be very helpful after pregnancy loss. Partners may experience the same loss in different ways; for instance, one person may want to talk about it often, while the other may cope by trying to move forward. These differences can create tension in a relationship, even when both people are grieving. A couples therapist can help partners better understand each other’s responses, communicate needs more clearly, and discuss next steps after the loss. This may include conversations about emotional support, intimacy, family boundaries, medical decisions, or whether and when to try for another pregnancy.
