Are you depressed, anxious with panic attacks, self-harming, angry, or distressed from past or current abuse/trauma? Are you grieving or sometimes you may feel like you do not want to be here. You may have family/relationship issues, parent-adultchild conflict or you need family reunification. You may have "church-hurt" or other hurtful situations that are hard. Well, there is hope. As a Trauma-Informed therapist I know that your path can get heavy. But you are unique and can still Awaken to every opportunity for you and become a better version of yourself. You do count, you matter and there are new Awakenings everyday!

Stuck? People-Pleasing? Burnt out by life? Almost like no matter what you try to change or improve, those wheels just keep spinning, and you are exhausted. My ideal client is someone who is just ready to feel better. You may not exactly know what is going on or why these feelings are coming up all of a sudden. That's okay! You deserve someone who will collaborate with you no matter what you are dealing with. I believe connection and authenticity is the most vital part of the therapy process. Therapy is not just for fears and tears, but laughter and smiles too :) Let's tackle this together! (I hope you enjoy analogies!)

Your story likely has been unbelievably joyful, unspeakably painful, or maybe just too confusing to put words to, yet. Something nudged you here or toward picking up the phone, and I would be honored to know what that is. I will walk with you, untangling your origins, what is happening inside and around you as we move toward a feeling of wholeness. Whether the issues are identity formation, loneliness, anxiety, depression, spirituality or relational struggles, there is hope beyond what you can see right now.

Hi, I’m Mel. Change can be something you want and fear at the same time. You may be navigating a life transition, identity shift, or a sense that something inside you is asking for attention, even if you are not sure how to name it yet. I work with adults who want to move through change with more clarity and self-trust, rather than pushing themselves to fix or override what they are feeling.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
