*Yes, I am gay :)* I believe that therapy is for everyone, because everyone deserves this sacred space to look into the mirror and see themselves. Sometimes the reflection isn’t pretty. Sometimes there are things we wish we didn’t see. However, witnessing and recognizing the pain and sadness is the first part of moving through it. That’s where the therapist comes in, to stand by patiently and point out the behaviors, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings that are causing us pain. They are the person who helps us shed everything that is holding us back so that we can finally become the person we always knew we could be.

My work is rooted in an anti-racist, LGBTQIA -affirming, feminist, and body-positive framework; allowing space for you in a compassionate and non-judgmental setting.
Maybe your anxiety or stress is compounded by intersectional identities such as gender, sexuality, or race. Maybe you find yourself doom scrolling on social media in order to numb the world around you, have difficulty communicating with loved ones, or are searching for your sense of self after years of being told your true self was not enough. Maybe it’s even 2 am as you read this after a sleepless hour of thinking about all the embarrassing things that you’ve experienced. Now, wait. Take a breath, notice anything coming up for you and acknowledge it. It can be here without disrupting your purpose.

Emotions...UGH! What are they good for? Well...you might not want to hear this, but those emotions you are feeling are serving a purpose, but you might not understand how they are serving you. That's where I come in. You may feel aimless in parenthood, career, or your relationships. You want to understand more about who you are & what makes you tick, and want a safe and warm space to explore those thoughts. Are you a member of the LGBTQIA +, poly, or open community & nervous to begin counseling because of potential judgement? I get it, so I specifically & especially invite LGBTQIA + partners and couples to come work with me.

I work with persons of all genders and marginalized identities and am intentional about cultivating an LGBTQ + affirming space.
Trauma and sex therapy are my primary areas of practice which allows me to work with people on a variety of issues. Typically, I work with people wanting to build their self-esteem, improve their relationships and communication skills, or understand their sexual interests or identities. My main area of expertise is in working with survivors of sexual and relationship violence as they process their trauma and how those experiences might be impacting their current relationships or sense of self. Ultimately, my goal is to help people discover clarity within the chaos.

As a transgender therapist, one of my passions is working with clients who identify as part of the LGBTQIA + population. I enjoy collaborating with individuals who are exploring their gender and/or sexual identities and hope to offer guidance and compassion as they let go of any residual societal expectations. I have undergone the entire process of hormones, top surgery, and bottom surgeries and I am open with my clients about my experiences as we work to decrease their gender dysphoria and move toward the eventual goal of gender euphoria.

I have 25 years of experience in mental health, working in a Cognitive Behavioral framework with clients dealing with a variety of issues including: depression/anxiety, LGBT issues, codependency, relationship issues and religious/spiritual issues.
If you are exploring the option of therapy, you may have already made attempts to improve your situation on your own. You may feel depressed, anxious or lack assertiveness. Though you desire to make a change, you may be skeptical about the idea of counseling. You may also feel that finding a therapist who listens without judgment and who balances honest feedback with empathy, is a confusing and difficult task. If this describes your situation, I hope that I might have the opportunity to speak with you about a practical strategy to bring about the change you desire.

One important mission for me is to provide lesbian , gay , bisexual , transgender , and queer communities an affirming therapeutic environment where one's sexual orientation and gender identity are understood and supported, free from the judgment that homosexual, bisexual or transgender experiences are pathological.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, I administer, interpret, and prepare culturally sensitive reports based on psychological test data. Cultural considerations play a crucial role in understanding an individual’s beliefs, learning styles, educational attainment, and values and which provide a foundation for her or his pursue of happiness, attainment of career success, and development of a sense of purpose and situatedness. I conduct aptitude and achievement evaluations, assessments to evaluate an individual’s intellectual and emotional intelligence, assessments to evaluate an individual’s personality and social functioning.

Therapy is a partnership between the client and the therapist, and I feel honored when I am allowed to walk the path towards hope, empowerment and healing with another individual. You deserve someone who sees you, and will listen with an empathetic and non-judgmental ear. Life itself can be a struggle at times, and part of my role is to help you to recognize your strengths and assist you with concrete tools. For Black and Brown folks, as well as the LGBTQIA community, the stress can be overwhelming. It is ok, and at times necessary, to have that safe place, and safe person to hear you out. You are worth it!

I work closely with sexual and gender minority individuals ( LGBTQIA +), BIPOC and immigrant/refugee populations. I specialize in working with individuals who are 18+ and who may need help with processing trauma, stabilizing emotional regulation and working towards adaptive core beliefs. I believe that oppressive structures impact a person's emotional wellbeing on a multitude of levels and that intersectional identities of a person are all important in the processing of the mental and physical wellbeing of an individual. I have provided therapeutic services for clients for nearly 15 years.

I specialize in working with LGBTQIA clients but I work with many heterosexual clients as well.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor 20 years of experience working both as a therapist and doing community-based crisis intervention. I enjoy helping clients to maximize their potential by focusing upon their strengths and past successes. I believe that therapy is a cooperative endeavor that should assist the client in discovering his/her/their own abilities and coping strategies. I relish the opportunity to support clients through trying situations and to help them to process grief. I have spoken at conferences on HIV/AIDS, work with LGBTQIA clients, and other topics. I served on the HIV service funding Planning Council.

My primary goal is to help the client become comfortable by using a strengths-based approach to counseling. I work with clients of all genders and sexual orientations, with a special interest in LGBTQ + concerns and addictions. Being in recovery myself, as well as someone who identifies as a gay male, I am passionate about both populations. While working with the trials and tribulations of the addiction itself, I work with the Client to teach how to identify, and address, the underlying stressors to their addiction. I believe in the strength of personal empowerment as I partner with you to achieve your fullest potential.

My practice is LGBTQ + celebratory and welcoming of all identities and expressions.
You face unique challenges and feel alone in sorting through all life throws at you. Constant demands pull you in every direction, leaving you feeling inadequate; as if you’ve lost you own voice and vision for what you want out of your relationships, life, and future. Maybe it feels like a struggle to make a meaningful connection, a decision, or time to focus on your own well-being. You’re left feeling stuck and unsure of how to move forward. You want your relationships to be a place for support and understanding. You want to have balance, peace and stability.

Our clients often identify as LGBTQIA + / Queer , Non-monogamous, sex positive or sex neutral, neurodivergence, and or disabled and living within Missouri. Clients often start therapy to work on goals to learn more about identities, setting boundaries with others in their lives, opening up their relationship, learning more about themselves or others gender or sexual expression. Through individual, relationship, or family counseling we work to increase healthy communication based on our values, instead of assumed social norms.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
