I specialize in treating eating disorders , mood disorders, attachment/relational issues, and spiritual struggles.
Living in a broken world naturally means we may often feel broken ourselves, detached from who we genuinely are, who we once were, and who we long to be. It is easy to lose connection with our true selves as we attempt to navigate our external relationships, past traumas, societal expectations, and the daily demands of this world. This disconnection can disrupt our sense of equilibrium and wholeness and can bring on feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and a general dissatisfaction with life.

I have a diverse background in the evidence-based treatment of persons with trauma, eating disorders , co-occurring disorders, anxiety, mood disorders, LGBTQIA+ challenges and gender dysphoria. For clients with PTSD and other trauma, common goals include symptom reduction, coping, exploration and healing. With eating disorders , my practice is most appropriate for clients who have attended a higher level of care (e.g. Intensive Outpatient, Residential, PHP) and are looking to confront issues underlying the eating disorder. Clients seeking gender affirming care will find support with expression, transition, relationships and more.

Drawing from my work in queer and immigrant communities, and in residential and outpatient settings, I specialize in trauma, attachment injuries, identity exploration, and eating disorders .
The systems we live within (capitalism, racism, sexism, fatphobia, etc.) and our early attachment experiences can leave us feeling disconnected from others, our bodies, our values, and our authentic selves. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore with you and acknowledge the ways these systems have impacted and neglected you. Together, we'll develop resources, skills, and insights to make your life and relationships more manageable and meaningful.

I enjoy working with persons struggling with eating disorders , trauma and attachment disorders, multicultural counseling, and counseling special populations, as well as things like anxiety, depression, and more.
Most people arrive at their first therapy appointments uncertain of what to expect. From my point of view, our initial goals are simple, but vitally important — to form a trusting, collaborative relationship, and to use that stable base as a means by which we explore. From there, fear of judgment diminishes and understanding blossoms! The clearer we see, the more you feel understood, the more real insight and real change become possible. We are on our way to a transformative experience! Healing is just around the corner.

I have worked extensively with adults, adolescents, and children with a variety of clinical issues, including eating disorders , substance abuse, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and trauma.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered / Board Certified Art Therapist working with adults, adolescents, and children. My approach to therapy begins with forming a safe, therapeutic relationship that allows you to explore life transitions, emotional pain, or other symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, addiction, or eating disorders . We will move beyond symptom management and help you to identify and develop understanding of the deeper meaning of the presenting symptoms. Often, the symptoms are external manifestations of conflicts and core beliefs rooted in the inner world or attempts to avoid the pain of past and current life experiences.

Specialities include eating disorders , trauma and dissociative disorders.
In my practice I understand that clients bring painful experiences and emotions into therapy, and that those experiences manifest in many ways. My goal is to act as a guide and support as clients become empowered through the therapeutic journey. I work with clients in a collaborative, compassionate, strengths-based manner. Through my education and life experience, I have an array of tools in my tool box that allow me to flexibly work with clients. One of my greatest tools that I bring to therapy is that I have experienced treatment and recovery, personally. I know that full recovery is possible and would like to help you.

I present nationally on the topics of trauma, eating disorders , and interpersonal neurobiology.
What I have found in my 20 years of experience in practicing, teaching and publishing in the field of therapy is that I learn something new from every client that I treat. The goal of therapy, in my opinion, is to provide enough emotional safety for clients to examine their lives and create a narrative that allows for growth and connection.

My areas of expertise include eating disorders and compulsive exercise, depression, anxiety, OCD, BFRB, postpartum issues, and a variety of mood disorders.
Do you struggle with balance? No, not the standing on one foot while juggling type of balance, but the type that includes finding the “gray area”. I’m either a success, or I am a failure. My life is going perfectly, or it’s a disaster. If I don’t have it all figured out, I should just throw in the towel. Sound familiar? Whether it includes food/body image/exercise, parenting, work, or social life, I promise balance exists, you just might need a little help finding it. This is where I come in.

I work with clients who are struggling to cope with issues related to life transitions, addictions, eating disorders , body image, trauma, caregiving and other life demands. Psychotherapy is a deeply personal experience that can be alternately challenging, rewarding and hopeful. As a therapist, my goal is to provide a nonjudgmental atmosphere for those who wish to find balance in their lives through and beyond times of crisis or transition.

I have experience working with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders , substance abuse and relational issues.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adolescents, adults and couples. I approach psychotherapy as an opportunity to address unresolved issues and conflicts as they arise in life through the therapeutic relationship. I believe it is important to examine the various ways and places in one's life that symptoms present, and to work to understand the function and underlying meanings of the symptoms.

I work with adolescent’s through adult age clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders , stress, life changes, and self esteem.
I believe in providing a safe space for my clients to work towards their goals. By providing a safe space to open up about vulnerable topics my goal is to assist you in learning how to challenge maladaptive coping strategies and replace them with adaptive ones. In counseling the process to work towards change can be scary and difficult and that is why my number one goal as a therapist is providing a safe and inviting space to open up.I believe in using a person-centered approach, which means allowing you to guide the sessions. I have found that allowing you to build rapport and work towards your goals it fosters the most change.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
