You are troubled by some aspects of your significant relationships and are motivated to improve them even if it means having to change yourself and what you are doing in those relationships. You know that sometimes your reactions to events around you are too little or too big for what the situation calls for. You want to know your own feelings better, but more than that, you want to make choices that will get you what you need without them being at the expense of others.

I work with abuse issues, grief, parenting concerns, family dynamics, depression, anxiety, and deconstructing worldviews and choices on religion, gender, sex, and politics.
The world we live in is often chaotic, demanding, and oppressive. It requires so much of us - our time, our labor, our money - and for many of us the psychological and relational cost is high. Perhaps you are feeling isolated from community, stretched thin with responsibilities, anxious with the state of the world, or dealing with trauma wounds that haunt you and impact your relationships. Together we can dig at the root of what you feel, leading with curiosity and compassion as we do transformative work. Your inner and outer world are equally important and deserve our time and attention.

I have a diverse background in the evidence-based treatment of persons with trauma, eating disorders, co-occurring disorders, anxiety, mood disorders, LGBTQIA+ challenges and gender dysphoria. For clients with PTSD and other trauma, common goals include symptom reduction, coping, exploration and healing. With eating disorders, my practice is most appropriate for clients who have attended a higher level of care (e.g. Intensive Outpatient, Residential, PHP) and are looking to confront issues underlying the eating disorder. Clients seeking gender affirming care will find support with expression, transition, relationships and more.

Everyone has times in their lives when they feel stuck, dissatisfied, alone and anxious. If this is you, you may not understand how it got like this and can’t seem to find a way back. You may be feeling a sense of emptiness or a lack of meaning in your life. During these times you may find you are critical of yourself; comparing your inside experience to other’s outside persona. You struggle to get along with friends, family, and the family you grew up in. Maybe you have been burdened all your life with some of these issues and it's hard to believe you can find your way to who you really are.

Trauma, anxiety, grief, depression, and many other challenges in life can make joy hard to find for us. They shape how you see yourself, place strain on your relationships, and leave you feeling disconnected from the world around you. You find yourself wanting to change but you might be hesitant about starting therapy, especially when just getting through the day already feels like a lot. It might be hard to imagine that anything can be different at all. You might've even tried therapy before, and you're wanting to get back into caring for you. You seek to be understood, to be known. That's where we can come together!

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected, not quite yourself, overwhelmed and unsure how to manage through this? Or are you always putting your needs after the needs of others? Losing what sense of self that once was, or maybe you have never established the "who am I". Maybe you know why, you've endured trauma in the past and are seeking a way to heal. Or self-image and boundaries has always been a struggle and caused conflicts within your relationships. Does it seem as though life should feel more joyful, easier or just somehow better?

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
