I’m passionate about supporting people living with chronic illness or pain, exploring identity, navigating life transitions, managing academic stress, and facing the challenges that come with aging—all within a space that is fully LGBTQIA+ affirming.
I believe everyone deserves the chance to live a full, joyful life—even when facing difficult challenges or systemic barriers. My goal is to help you feel safe, supported, and truly seen as you explore your values, uncover your strengths, and move toward a more meaningful life. As a queer, disabled therapist, I understand the unique grief that can come with living in a world not built with our identities or bodies in mind. I use warmth, humor, and compassion to support people coping with challenges like anxiety and depression, assisting them in finding healing and ease through acceptance, mindfulness skills, and self-compassion.

I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety, chronic pain or who have experienced trauma from relational issues or PTSD.
Art therapy involves connecting the body, mind and spirit. I believe that we all have the innate ability to heal. We have a safe environment to process, allowing for increased insight, removing roadblocks to growth, and reframing perceptions. In therapy, I emphasize the use of art, movement and mindfulness in a collaborative therapeutic relationship. Art therapy gives an opportunity to facilitate integration that can lead to a new state of embodiment and awareness, resulting in an improved quality of life.

The therapeutic relationship is one of healing and hope. Facilitating that relationship is very important because I understand the value of working with someone not pushing their usually well-intentioned agenda onto your situation. Someone outside our problems who has no investment in how we handle those problems can offer limitless perspective and an abundance of compassion. In addition to being a listening ear, therapists have many resources and tools to help us navigate whatever challenges and changes life throws at us. This is the type of therapist I strive to be.

I enjoy working with multicultural and chronic illness clients.
Sometimes, even when we know that something is wrong, we still need guidance in order to disentangle the problems that cause us suffering. Every problem has a solution and every difficult period can have a peaceful resolution. My therapeutic approach primarily stems from Family Systems Theory. I focus on emotional independence through individuation and help individuals, couples and families gain additional growth, strengths, and insights into their lives. I work on reducing negative communication patterns and installing love as an attachment bond.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
