You might be an
adolescent
or young adult who is overwhelmed with balancing discovering who you are while maintaining the expectations of school, parents, & friends.
Hello Friend! Feel free to call me Jazz or Jazzy. I’m a curious person who loves helping my fellow humans find their way back home to themselves. This can mean different things depending on the individual, which is why we will work together to decide what it means for you. You’re the expert on your lived experience, I’m the one with the student debt for this degree, and we will work as a team to meet your therapeutic goals. My intention in sessions is to provide a safe place where you can finally set down some of the heavy burdens like anxiety, self-harm, shame, and trauma and begin to unpack them.

I believe that no matter what age you are, most emotional struggles stem from a feeling of disconnection - from self, family and friends, or the world in general. You may feel as if you aren't yourself lately, or as if relationships have become difficult to navigate. Possibly you're having a hard time staying present and engaging in the world around you. If you are seeking therapy for your child or your
teen
, it may seem as if their behaviors or reactions don't match up to the situation they are in. Feeling seen, heard, and understood in therapy can allow adults and children to build or repair connections to self and others.

Being a
teen
is hard.
"Leave me alone", "You don't get it", "It's not the same as when you were a kid". Parenting can feel insurmountable, but for teens who feel misunderstood, alone, helpless, or afraid, talking to a parent may feel intimidating or counterintuitive. As a parent, grandparent, single parent, co parent, god parent, extended relative you may feel that you have run out of ideas and things to try. You have options! Contact me to help bridge the communication gap between you and your
teen
/tween. We already have one thing in common and that's wanting the best for you and your family!

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
