My goal is to work with you to understand the thoughts that are plaguing your mind, the emotions that just can't seem to be controlled, and the feelings of defeat that pull on you while you're exhausted. Please know there are always parts of ourselves that may need just a little more attention, awareness, and healing. Invest in you. Nevada and Iowa clients have access to telehealth services only.
I believe people are more than their diagnosis. Yes, a diagnosis is a tool but it is not the big picture. I come from a place of curiosity and wonder, wanting to know my clients on a deeper level so that I can help them navigate this world. For example, PTSD is a big diagnosis that is thrown around; yet, it doesn't paint the full picture. It doesn't reflect someone's experiences, triggers, how this is impacting their relationships, family history, the strengths they possess etc. Adolescents are my passion however, I also enjoy and work closely with families and adults.
There are so many reasons people choose to see a counselor; trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship problems or situational stress for example. Sometimes, you feel that you can work through it alone. However, another perspective and a place to talk in a comfortable and safe environment is the most beneficial for change to occur. You can get your life on track and I can help! I will help you in developing realistic goals and the support and tools to reach those goals. I have also added a certification to assist First Responders to cope with the challenges of these roles with someone who understands them and their jobs.
Hello! My name is Courtney Mills. I have been a licensed professional counselor, in the state of Missouri, since 2011, as well as a school counselor since 2010. I have dedicated my career to supporting children in their journey toward social emotional growth and wellbeing. Educating children through a strength-based and mindful approach, I have worked with children through individual and group counseling support. Advocating for children's needs and helping them develop and grow into their own, self-confident individuals is the true passion and drive behind what I do every day.
My primary focus as a counselor is helping clients reach their highest potential. Sometimes clients come to me when they are lost and feeling unsure what their next steps need to be. Other times clients are aware what they want their path to be, they just need encouragement and accountability to get themselves there. No matter the reason a client is coming to counseling, I work towards being one of their biggest cheerleaders.
“Running away from a problem only increases the distance from the solution.” Therapy is personal and unique and I believe your therapeutic journey should lead you to self-empowerment and positive changes in your life. My intent is to support you in discovering what stops you from living the life you have always hoped for. My approach is depth-orientated and includes a blend of traditional therapy and creative ways of optimizing a healthier new sense of Self. I value the importance of creating a safe space that allows for a sense of peace, trust and comfort.
Many successful women struggle with a pattern of toxic and abusive relationships. You feel invisible, unloveable, unseen, frustrated, and angry. You aren't valuing yourself as a result of having been devalued by people close to you, and you continue to find yourself in these types of unhealthy alliances - it's a toxic pattern that leaves you depleted, anxious and depressed. I want to help women BREAK OUT OF THAT CYCLE, and shift into a vibrant life that includes rewarding work, peace, joy, and happy healthy relationships.
