I believe meaningful change happens through experience—not just insight, but how you live, feel, and respond in your day-to-day life. In our work together, I offer a supportive, collaborative space where you can explore your story, better understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and begin to try new ways of being.

My areas of focus include trauma and PTSD, substance use and recovery, co-occurring disorders, grief and loss, life transitions, stress, and burnout.
Our first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. We focus on what brings you in, what you want to feel or do differently, and what has or has not helped in the past. We will discuss goals, pace, and what safety and support look like for you moving forward.

You’ve tried everything. You're almost out of energy and hope. It feels like depression and anxiety are winning. Or drugs or alcohol are taking over. It’s a scary place to be and can feel very lonely. But you don’t have to be alone. I work with clients in this scary place and am unafraid to step into these challenges with you. You already have the strength to do this. I can help you find your footing to build a life that feels like you. I work without judgment and at your pace.

My clients come in carrying anxiety that won't quiet down, relationships that feel stuck, or trauma that's been easier to avoid than face. Some are going through big life changes. Others have been managing symptoms for years and are finally ready to try something different. With 20 years in mental health, I've sat with people through just about every version of hard. I work with individuals, couples, and families virtually across Missouri. My practice is a space where all of who you are is welcome, whether that includes your faith, your identity, or both.

Life offers us all challenges, and sometimes those challenges may seem unbearable or especially unique. Some of us experience difficulties from the time we are little children- trauma, abuse, neglect. We each have unique abilities and strengths. Sometimes, we have trouble accessing our strengths, but you have gifts in your being that are your gifts and strengths alone. My goal in working with you is to act as a catalyst -to encourage you to find your talents, abilities, and strengths that will serve you in coping with whatever difficulty life has given you.

If you or a loved one would benefit from seeing a counselor I specialize in helping teen boys and men. Teen boys over 14 who are open to the idea of counseling can benefit no matter if a parent initiates. Parents can expect from me good boundaries and communication. Teens often report a willingness to trust me and engage in counseling. Also, I work with men to understand themselves and their relationships. Counseling seeks to address aspects of yourself we can work together to understand. My goal is to help men towards increased hope and resolve in meeting life's challenges.

I specialize in helping teens and young adults struggling with substance use and addiction, but have worked successfully with people from a variety of backgrounds.
I utilize many different schools of thought when approaching therapy, but find that just being a human being is the most effective way to connect. I try not to be overly clinical and instead focus more on building the therapeutic relationship and trust. Once that trust and comfort is established, it becomes a far more natural experience to work together.

My specialty is self-esteem, effectiveness in relationships, substance use disorder/codependency, trauma, depression, anxiety and other disorders.
I believe that we all reach places in our lives where we are learning, unlearning and possibly relearning the existential areas of: who am I, what do I want, and what are my barriers & blind spots? Some may need support identifying or answering these questions cause they can be overwhelming. We often develop limitations in efforts to cope with grief, stress, control, hurt & relationships. So do you wonder,"What might be getting in my way or holding me back?", or "What I am avoiding?" or "Do I want to be more effective in my relationship?" Therapy can support you when you are answering these incredibly rich questions for yourself.

Depression, anxiety, life transition, grief and loss, relationship conflict, self-esteem, and substance use are all common issues that we can treat together in counseling.
I offer a warm and welcoming space utilizing person-centered counseling. I am laid back and aim to make therapy what you need it to be. That could include sitting on the couch, walking, creating art, building skills, etc. I especially enjoy working with teens and young adults navigating issues related to mood, relationships, transitions, and substance use.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
