I want you to know what it’s like to live a life of healing. If you feel like you are drowning, overwhelmed, exhausted, or resentful - I can help. Together we will roll up our sleeves and get to work. It will get a little messy, but I’m not scared of the mess. I will support you while you learn to love the things you have previously hidden. Your pain, your thoughts, and your behaviors can all make sense when we explore them with kind curiosity. Whether you experience self-loathing or the impact of narcissistic abuse, I am equipped to help you navigate healing and moving forward from a place of freedom.

Living with a chronic illness (or any challenge) means navigating a world that frequently cannot see the weight you carry.
In our sessions, we will work collaboratively on finding your strengths and applying them across to other areas of your life. Additional interest will be placed in the connections (partners, family, friends, etc.) that exist in your life and how they can be used in conjunction with your strengths to establish a pathway to feeling better about your life.

You may be navigating stress, anxiety, grief, caregiving responsibilities, or major life transitions that have left you feeling emotionally stretched or overwhelmed. Some clients are also coping with chronic illness or supporting a loved one through health challenges. With a background in healthcare and personal experience, I bring both emotional understanding and practical awareness of the systems and responsibilities that often add to stress.

Are you or a loved one navigating a medical diagnosis or condition? It can feel like you lose yourself between all of the appointments and changes that occur within the family and the world itself. Suddenly things that used to feel easy, like school or going to a restaurant, feel overwhelming and isolating. I have a strong passion for Medical Family Therapy. I love helping adults navigate medical diagnoses, parents navigate their child’s medical diagnoses, assisting children in processing their diagnoses, and supporting couples throughout all phases of their lives, including pregnancy and postpartum.

While I enjoy working with a variety of concerns, my primary areas of interest are: grief and loss (including pet loss), chronic illness, anxiety, depression, trauma, mood and personality disorders, and life transitions.
Being a human can be tough: life gets heavy sometimes and navigating day-to-day existence can be complicated, but you don't have to do it alone. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, uncertain, or disconnected, I can help you process these complex feelings and find a way forward.

Life causes pain, or invisible battles, that everyone encounters. You may be feeling like you are walking through this alone, feel unseen, or even that your story doesn’t deserve to have understanding. Your pain disconnects you from your identify, peace and beliefs. Emotional and physical struggles are connected and oftentimes create shame, doubt and fear. I help clients connect their pain to their story and navigate their path to healing. My therapeutic approach provides warmth with acceptance and empathy, where clients not only begin to heal, but also learn to step into their authentic selves.

Life is hard. When we are faced with challenges, we can become discouraged, stuck, and even hopeless. Asking for help is also scary, and for some, a gamble. However, I believe if you take a leap of faith and reach out, you may find that one person who understands and wants to join you in finding solutions that could help "reset" your life. Allow me to be that sounding board and assist you in seeking ways to cope with life transitions, stress, anxiety, low self worth, codependency, inner family problems, addiction, depression.

Chronic Illness Therapists
How does therapy for chronic illness work?
Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?
Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?
No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?
There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
