After over 20 years as a K-8 teacher, I became a counselor 3 years ago to address the growing emotional needs of students & parents.
Whether you are a couple, family, or an individual, I am here to help you to learn and apply effective skills so life feels less overwhelming and more enjoyable. Couples often struggle with physical or emotional connection; we work to address feelings of neglect and apply rituals to restore feeling heard and loved. Families may be divided by past trauma; I offer support for each member with family therapy as needed. Individuals need relational help, self-worth rebuilding, communication skills, and, often, trauma processing to overcome feeling "less than".

These issues may include parenting issues, grief and loss, relationships, being part of the sandwich generation, work/life balance.
My fellowship training focused on family systems, as we are all in some type of system, our family of origin, extended family, friends, or work family. All these systems come with the joys and sorrows inherent in relationship. Together we can come up with new ways of navigating difficulties without compromising relationships.

I have experience in helping clients with family conflicts, trauma and abuse, parenting, and coping with grief and loss.
I have the honor of getting to learn about my clients' stories and how they want to live their lives. The most exciting parts of my work are the moments when a client understands themselves and their experiences just a little differently and those insights enable them to live with more freedom and authenticity.

I take care to include families in the therapy process to empower parents and enhance parenting resources.
I operate from a trauma-informed and person centered therapy approach with individuals of all ages, with a specialty in play therapy for children who have experienced trauma or complex stressful experiences. This means that I believe each individual has what it takes within them to be in charge of their own healing, and some people just need help along the way. That also means that you get to come exactly as you are and be accepted and cared for. We will take time to build a positive and authentic therapeutic relationship, which will hold the healing powers of safety and connection.

I've helped parents to learn proven parenting techniques.
As we journey through life, we can experience challenges that stifle our personal growth or block our connection with others. Sometimes, we feel ill-equipped, disappointed, alone, hurt, or afraid. But there is hope-- hope for understanding, peace, empowerment, and joy. Whether you would like to broaden your understanding of your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, or deepen your connection with others, there is hope and there is help. Together we can enhance self-awareness and other-awareness. We can work to understand and strengthen your ability to manage your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We can develop healthy problem-solving and life skills.

I primarily work with children, parents, domestic violence survivors, trauma and special needs/disabilities.
The first step towards seeking therapy for you, or your loved ones is challenging. Therapy isn't linear and won't look the same for anyone. I'm a therapist who strongly believes each session will look different and adapts to your needs in that moment. I use evidence-based interventions in sessions, while being in that moment with you.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
