EMDR Therapists in Platte Woods, MO
EMDR is an amazing therapy that I am very passionate about, and use with most clients.
I now have a few daytime spots that have opened up if you have been trying to get in!
I have worked with clients in the Northland for the past 27 years. If you have considered therapy - trust your intuition! You don't have to struggle silently with the lows any longer. If you feel stuck - take the next step. Don't wait until relationships worsen, you lose hope, or shame takes over. The time is now. You deserve it.

Life is hard. Reaching out for help is a huge step, especially when you are in the lows of depression or throes of anxiety. I strive to offer my clients a safe place where they can explore and process difficult emotions. You don't have to figure out everything on your own! While in-person therapy has many upsides, teletherapy is accessible, including the convenience of no travel time to an office and meeting from the comfort of your home (or a parking lot during lunchtime). I currently offer teletherapy only to clients located in Kansas, Utah, and Missouri.

When stress shows up in your body or the past keeps pulling at the present, we use nervous-system tools and EMDR.
Some people come in with a diagnosis they've carried for years. Others come in because life stopped feeling like theirs and they can't say when that changed. I see moms running on empty by eight o'clock, teens tired of hearing calm down, kids whose feelings come in big waves, and adults who feel like no one has listened in a long time.
Every emotion is welcome here. What we work on is what you do with them. Fifteen plus years in this field has taught me that people change when they feel understood first and challenged second. I'll sit with you in the hard part, and I'll also ask the questions you've been avoiding.

What you can expect from each therapy session is to be heard, seen, validated and sometimes gently challenged.

I integrate EMDR ( EMDRIA-certified), iRest Yoga Nidra, and DBT to move you out of survival mode and rebuild your capacity from the inside out.
We don't choose the hand we're dealt — but we can choose to grow. It's normal to get stuck in survival mode after trauma or hard seasons of life. When you're done managing symptoms and ready to do the work, the way back is through the body — the way back to yourself. I've been practicing since 1997, and I still walk beside people through the hardest places.

For 30yrs, I have had the distinct privilege of working with hundreds of traumatized clients, couples, & fellow mental health professionals. Though many are shattered by grave emotional injuries, they find a way to rise up, face themselves and others, heal bravely, and transform their lives. With my clients, I hope to forge a close, safe, & collaborative relationship where clients may achieve significant emotional growth. To do so, clients & I identify treatment strategies that heal wounds, resolve symptoms, change behaviors, cultivate a strong voice, revive joy, engage authenticity, & support courageous, wholehearted living.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
