Hi. Thank you for taking a look at my counseling profile. I love counseling and have been practicing for 30 years. One of the things I've noticed new clients are concerned about is being able to express themselves without being judged, as well as if the experience will be awkward. In all my years of practicing, I've heard almost everything imaginable and judgment is not a part of how I work. Everything in my office is 100% confidential and safe. I know how to ask the right question and keep the conversation flowing.

Every person deserves the chance to create happiness from within themselves. As the therapist, I will work with the inner strengths of those individuals and help them navigate their life to become their truest self. My therapeutic practice is based on the client's individual needs. I believe that there is no one model to fit all people and the therapy should be molded to the client's individual goals.

I work with premarital, marital couples, and individual adults and adolescents. I believe in the wisdom of clients which allows them to be an active participant in the therapeutic process. I focus on three main points with my clients. 1. Pay attention to repetitive patterns you are caught up in or that others are caught up in with you, and change anything you can about those patterns. 2. Notice what you are doing when things are going better, and do more of that. 3. Acknowledge the facts and influence of the past, without letting them determine the present or future.

My philosophy of counseling is to let others know they are not alone. Clients will always have someone to talk to about anything troublesome. I believe all people need someone to be there for them, to comfort them and give them tools to self-sooth and learn to succeed to the best of their ability. Through unconditional positive regard, creating a safe space which is nonjudgmental and confidential, and by using active listening and other techniques clients can continue to learn to improve themselves and their environment.

“Logically, I know I shouldn't be reacting this way, but emotionally....that's a different story”. As a therapist, I can't tell you how many times I have heard some version of this from clients. Have you been struggling in a losing battle to fight off intense emotions like fear, sadness, shame, or anger even though you “know” better? Have you even had physical symptoms in your body like heart racing, muscle tightness, headaches, or stomach upset, even on days where everything appears to be “fine”?

I am passionate about helping people uncover and heal emotional wounds contributing to anxiety, depression, and anger. I connect clients with the kindness of Christ, who helps us change how we think and feel about ourselves and our lives. In addition, through assessments and exploration, I can help you discover the life patterns that have kept you "stuck". Awareness of these patterns is a step toward freedom. One way to discover these patterns is through the use of the Enneagram. I am an Enneagram CP Certified Professional.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
