Knowing who to trust to help your child through a tough time, deciding who to believe in the mix of conflicting
parenting
advice available in the bookstore and online, is overwhelming.
Being a mom is agonizing when your child’s struggling. You’ve done your best and don’t know what else to do. Love mixes with pain and it feels like your heart is breaking. Sometimes kids get clinging, tearful and whiny. Sometimes they get rude and disrespectful. Sometimes they meltdown because they can’t hold it together. Sometimes they’re anxious and sometimes they’re depressed. Whatever you’re facing, it’s hard. I remember. I’m a mom. I got the looks, the unkind remarks in the grocery store. It hurt. There were times when I lost my temper and felt the mom guilt. And I discovered a way to alter the course of our story for good.

As the
parent
, you are the expert on your child so we will meet regularly to collaborate.
I know that asking for help can be a difficult process especially when it comes to the mental health of your child. We have all had times in our lives when we and/or our kids needed extra support to be healthier. I am a Private Practice Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist (aka: I have a lot of training and experience counseling kids). I enjoy helping kids who struggle with attachment issues and/or have experienced trauma which is why I am trained in the two evidenced based trauma therapy treatments (TFCBT and EMDR) and in Theraplay Level 1 to grow relational attachment. Many of my clients are foster care or adopted kids.

and each of these roles has given me a well-rounded approach to working with clients.
"All behavior is communication" and my goal is to help parents, kids, and teens understand the emotions behind their actions. I have experience working with both teens and adults, and enjoy working with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and
parenting
challenges.
My primary focus as a counselor is helping clients reach their highest potential. Sometimes clients come to me when they are lost and feeling unsure what their next steps need to be. Other times clients are aware what they want their path to be, they just need encouragement and accountability to get themselves there. No matter the reason a client is coming to counseling, I work towards being one of their biggest cheerleaders.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
