My specialty is Grief , Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, First Responders and Sports/School/Job Performance.
I have a passion to assist you in overcoming adversity and facing your mental health concerns. Empathy, open-mindedness, and communication are my core values. My path to counseling began very young through my own personal experience with loss of life, which lead me to the path to helping others. I understand that missing our loved ones and being depressed is normal, and the key to grieving is to find a way to form a new relationship with the one we lost. In addition, through my collegiate student-athlete experience I understand the delicate balance of being a student-athlete, including the pressures that come along with it.

My interest and involvement working with such issues include: anxiety, depression, adult and child trauma, marital issues, abandonment issues, co-dependency, grief , loss , stress management, relaxation techniques, and psychoeducational information.
Every person deserves the chance to create happiness from within themselves. As the therapist, I will work with the inner strengths of those individuals and help them navigate their life to become their truest self. My therapeutic practice is based on the client's individual needs. I believe that there is no one model to fit all people and the therapy should be molded to the client's individual goals.

I offer talk therapy and play therapy to neuro typical and neuro divergent children with anxiety, confidence, grief , anger, relationship struggles, and trauma.
I believe children have an innate ability to grow in a positive direction. The child-therapist relationship is the element that encourages healing, where the child feels safe, supported, and is able to make those changes that lead to growth through exploring self (experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors). When we meet a child's need, rather than focus on the behavior, we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom. I focus on possibilities, strengths, and value differences through direct and indirect practices.

I also see kids who struggle with emotional/behavioral issues including anger, depression, anxiety, grief , family and social concerns.
I know that asking for help can be a difficult process especially when it comes to the mental health of your child. We have all had times in our lives when we and/or our kids needed extra support to be healthier. I am a Private Practice Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist (aka: I have a lot of training and experience counseling kids). I enjoy helping kids who struggle with attachment issues and/or have experienced trauma which is why I am trained in the two evidenced based trauma therapy treatments (TFCBT and EMDR) and in Theraplay Level 1 to grow relational attachment. Many of my clients are foster care or adopted kids.

There are so many reasons people choose to see a counselor; trauma, grief , anxiety, depression, relationship problems or situational stress for example. Sometimes, you feel that you can work through it alone. However, another perspective and a place to talk in a comfortable and safe environment is the most beneficial for change to occur. You can get your life on track and I can help! I will help you in developing realistic goals and the support and tools to reach those goals. I have also added a certification to assist First Responders to cope with the challenges of these roles with someone who understands them and their jobs.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
