I also see kids who struggle with emotional/behavioral issues including anger, depression, anxiety, grief,
family
and social concerns.
I know that asking for help can be a difficult process especially when it comes to the mental health of your child. We have all had times in our lives when we and/or our kids needed extra support to be healthier. I am a Private Practice Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist (aka: I have a lot of training and experience counseling kids). I enjoy helping kids who struggle with attachment issues and/or have experienced trauma which is why I am trained in the two evidenced based trauma therapy treatments (TFCBT and EMDR) and in Theraplay Level 1 to grow relational attachment. Many of my clients are foster care or adopted kids.

I’m looking forward to helping you and your
family
when you’re ready to call and talk over your needs.
Being a mom is agonizing when your child’s struggling. You’ve done your best and don’t know what else to do. Love mixes with pain and it feels like your heart is breaking. Sometimes kids get clinging, tearful and whiny. Sometimes they get rude and disrespectful. Sometimes they meltdown because they can’t hold it together. Sometimes they’re anxious and sometimes they’re depressed. Whatever you’re facing, it’s hard. I remember. I’m a mom. I got the looks, the unkind remarks in the grocery store. It hurt. There were times when I lost my temper and felt the mom guilt. And I discovered a way to alter the course of our story for good.

I believe in working with the
family
to help the parent understand the child's unique communication style and the needs they are trying to express.
As a society we are challenged by an overwhelming amount of expectations and stressors placed on us by the world. Anxiety is very real and many have experienced trauma or have their own struggles with depression. Reaching out for help is an act of courage and humility. Forsythe Wellness takes a Functional Medicine approach, viewing the mind and body as working together. This means looking at every area of a person's life to understand and address the root causes underlying the symptoms. Using a unique person-centered approach for each client, we will focus on impacting long-term change. Therapy takes place in a variety of settings.

Together, we can collaborate about what interventions will work best for your child and
family
.
Does your child struggle with managing emotions? Are lagging social skills, anxiety, or acting out behaviors interfering with daily life? Are you feeling overwhelmed and at a loss for how to help? After spending 18 years as an early childhood educator in a local public school district, I transitioned to clinical therapy in order to work with families more directly in support of social/emotional skills and mental health. Counseling is a great opportunity for exploration and growth.

I employ an individualized approach for each client using a mix of treatment methods including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, Internal
Family
Systems and mindfulness strategies.
Although starting counseling can be a difficult, sometimes scary decision, I believe that walking into a counselor's office takes strength and courage. I work with adult clients who have experienced ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and substance abuse to grow in their confidence and understanding of themselves and I work with them to develop skills they can utilize to reach their therapy goals. Through our sessions, clients feel empowered, make choices aligned with their goals, and can create healthier relationships with themselves and others.

Hi. Thank you for taking a look at my counseling profile. I love counseling and have been practicing for 30 years. One of the things I've noticed new clients are concerned about is being able to express themselves without being judged, as well as if the experience will be awkward. In all my years of practicing, I've heard almost everything imaginable and judgment is not a part of how I work. Everything in my office is 100% confidential and safe. I know how to ask the right question and keep the conversation flowing.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
