EMDR is an amazing therapy that I am very passionate about, and use with most clients.
I now have a few daytime spots that have opened up if you have been trying to get in! I have worked with clients in the Northland for the past 27 years. If you have considered therapy - trust your intuition! You don't have to struggle silently with the lows any longer. If you feel stuck - take the next step. Don't wait until relationships worsen, you lose hope, or shame takes over. The time is now. You deserve it.

I often use tenets from a variety of therapy modalities including CBT and EMDR.
Feeling overwhelmed? Struggling to manage your emotions or navigate relationships? Are you just not feeling like yourself, like something is missing? Many people face these kind of challenges, but seeking support can be scary. You may wonder if your struggles are "bad enough" or that you should handle them on your own. You might think, "I should feel happy", but you don't. The truth is, we all need help sometimes. Whether you are seeking a listening ear, a safe space to talk, or specialized therapeutic approaches, you've come to the right place.

I am able to offer EMDR therapy for trauma recovery as well.
I believe in the strength of hope. Life experiences, stress, or mental health symptoms can make it difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am invested in partnering with people as they navigate through the dark times. My eclectic approach pulls from Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and others, to meet each person where they are.

Every person is unique and each of us has a story. Our stories are filled with a special blend of feelings and experiences. Sometimes our stories are so frightening and painful that we are afraid to share them with others. Your story matters. I am here to listen, explore the impact of your story with you and help reinforce your skills to move forward.

The solutions to life's struggles are elusive, and hard times have a way of leaving us filled with doubt, confusion, and hopelessness. These are some of the building blocks of anxiety, depression, resentments, addictions, and strained relationships, among other conditions. It's normal and can even be helpful to experience some worry, sadness, and other forms of tension, however for many these emotions grow to levels where they are no longer useful. If this resonates with you, please take a moment to assure yourself that you do not have to take this on alone. A life that is more fulfilling and manageable is within your reach.

Your alarm clock is going off, and that sense of dread sits in the pit of your stomach. You slept but you don’t feel rested. Brushing your teeth and getting dressed leaves you drained. The idea of “peopling” makes you want to curl in a ball. You have thoughts popping into your head that you aren’t “good enough,” are “an imposter,” or “a failure.” Everyday tasks can feel overwhelming, and you can be your own worst critic when struggling with life transitions, trauma, anxiety or depression. Asking for help can be daunting, as we are often taught to face those internal battles quietly and alone.

Certifications: Nationally Certified Counselor and Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist, EMDR trained, Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 2), PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator, Nationally Certified Counselor, Master of Arts in Counseling
I became a therapist because I experienced firsthand how powerful therapy can be. My own journey in counseling changed the course of my life, and I saw how understanding and working with my emotions—rather than against them—opened doors I didn’t know existed. That experience stayed with me, and I realized I wanted to help others discover that same possibility for themselves.

I have extensive training in EMDR, a therapy that is especially helpful for PTSD.
I am passionate about guiding clients toward their goals with warmth and non-judgement. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to each individual and strive to strike a balance between helping someone understand the "why" and the "how" throughout therapy. Asking why did I come to be here; what have I been doing that isn't working anymore and how can I go about change? Pain can be an invitation to make the changes necessary to grow. I believe that growth toward a successful and healthy future is possible with deeper understanding of one's past and taking steps toward change.

It’s hard to get out of bed each morning. There was a time when you were hopeful about life, but that seems like long ago. That was before all your troubles started. Now, every day feels more difficult than the last. Your kids treat you like their personal assistant. You just got in another fight with your spouse, and you’re not even sure what it was about. You try to concentrate at work, but your mind is always racing, darting in countless different directions. In the rare instance that you’re able to carve aside a moment for yourself, you feel guilty about it. It’s getting to the point where you just want to run away and hide.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
