This includes traditional "talk therapy", EMDR & Energy Psychology to help work through issues of Addiction, Self Esteem, Trauma and PTSD, Dissociation, Grief, Mood Regulation and Relationships, as well as most other concerns.
I am licensed in MO and KS allowing me to offer telehealth sessions throughout both states and in-person sessions for individuals in the KC metro. Available for immediate day and evening appointments. For over 20 years, I have worked with adults to help create long-term change, healing and transformation, instead of temporary band-aids. This is done by building a relationship of safety and acceptance, identifying the root cause of the problem, and provide the tools and techniques that best fit the circumstance.

I often use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) in my practice.
I offer a compassionate, holistic approach to therapy that treats the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. If you carry the deep pain of abandonment or attachment wounds, you are not alone. Together we will gently uncover the roots of these wounds and create lasting healing. In our work, I focus on building a safe, trusting partnership in the healing process. You are the expert on your own life; I am here to collaborate and guide you through. Using evidence-based and integrative methods, we will address the emotional patterns, physical tension and spiritual disconnection that often accompany early relational trauma.

My first inquiry into psychology was because of my interest in the human condition, but my own experiences of struggle and desperation provided me proof of the value of therapeutic spaces; spaces where you come just as you are without judgment. If you are struggling, I would be happy to meet with you. This struggle may be with emotions, with relationships, with internal conflict or confusion, with spiritual uncertainty, or with what might be characterized as a struggle with "everything." I want to offer you a place to come and explore that which feels too difficult or too scary to explore on your own.

Your family may be feeling like it is being turned upside down as your developing young adult struggles to find their place in the world. I work within the family system to re-establish the balance that is necessary for a healthy, growing family and find order within the chaos. Teens and young people may appear to be rebelling; fighting back against all of the families efforts to offer guidance and support. We can work together to turn this energy into a productivity and success in academic, social, and all other aspects of life.

I am EMDR trained and use an attachment-focused approach to help clients process difficult experiences that feel too difficult to move beyond.
Many people understand why they struggle but still feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in the same patterns. Therapy can provide a space to better understand yourself, feel heard and supported, and create meaningful change. I believe people make sense in the context of their experiences, and that many of the ways we cope, relate, and protect ourselves developed for a reason. My approach is relational, attachment-based, and trauma-informed, with a focus on helping clients better understand themselves and their experiences with curiosity and compassion.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri and Kansas, I use various therapeutic modalities to respectfully connect with adolescents and adults based on the needs of each individual. I completed EMDR training to help individuals work through traumatic events and target negative thinking. After learning about the impact of trauma on the brain, my interest in neuroscience led me to complete a concentrated training program in Neurofeedback to explore the benefits of its non-invasive, self-healing power to balance dysregulation in the brain.

I use evidence based practices such at EMDR, CPT-C, Prolonged Exposure, CBT, and others.
I believe that everyone has the potential to grow and learn. Friends and family are great support at times, but sometimes people can benefit from more. I often tell people therapy is a little bit like having a coach. It is someone to set goals with, someone to hold you accountable, someone to cheer you on and help you navigate the road map of life. It is my goal to help you get on the track that is best suited for you and your family, and come up with a plan to help you stay the course!

My work focuses on adults and couples who endeavor to live a life of fulfillment, meaning, and joy. Most of the issues we struggle with are not fully known to us because “that is the way it has always been” and they can exist outside of our awareness. Our focus will be looking at the current problem(s), the origins and beliefs that keep it going, and the background of that problem along with your experiences, any trauma, and/or neglect, and how that builds our internal image.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
