I use trauma-informed, attachment-based , emotion-focused, client-focused therapy, and I incorporate body awareness, parts work, EMDR and psychosomatic approaches.
Life presents challenges that are difficult to face alone, and trusting someone to hold your thoughts and emotions as sacred takes courage. I consider it an honor to walk with you, side by side, through your journey of transformation, healing and restoration. I seek to connect the body and the brain to dig deeper, at your pace. Creating and being a safe, inviting, warm and connected space is a passion of mine. It is such a privilege to bear witness to people reclaiming themselves and finding freedom from trauma!

I’ve been providing individual therapy for adults, teens, and children for over 7 years. Individuals I've served have varied considerably in regards to the issues that have brought them in for counseling. I take great care to understand that each person I work with is a unique and complex individual needing services tailored to them.

I see clients in person at my Lee's Summit office, as well as online. I enjoy working with older teens and adults, stress and burnout among parents and professionals, those going through life transitions (high school seniors, college students, young professionals, pre-marital couples, new parents, retirees), grief and loss, relationship issues, struggles with past or present trauma, and those that are new to therapy. I see both individuals and couples.

I believe we all have the right to our own belief systems but often times sharing those with someone who is a complete stranger can be intimidating. I offer you a safe space to be YOU. I am a spiritual being that is open to embracing dialogue around non-traditional ways of thinking and believing. Because the client-therapist is an important relationship, my goal is to provide a high-quality service to you that includes quick and responsive communication as well as a huge library of resources to give you the tools you need for an action based and humanistic therapy process. I enjoy working with women and couples!

Are you unsure if you're struggling with an addiction and you feel like your substance may be wreaking havoc on your life and your relationships? It takes courage to ask for help. I can meet you where you are and we can explore this together in an environment that is free of shame and judgement. Visiting with a counselor can be a life changing experience. I work with clients from early childhood through all phases of adulthood. Everyone has a unique story, and I value the personal experiences, hopes, and dreams of all my clients. Partnering during a trusting counseling relationship can be one of the best ways to reach your goals and create lasting, positive change in your life. The relationship between counselor and client can create a vessel or space in which we can unpack and sort through your concerns with care, compassion, and confidentiality.

I believe identity is a critical part of self-understanding and healing. For this reason, I enjoy working with folks who are looking to explore their identities which might include sexuality, gender, race, religion, physical and mental ability, and roles in society. I am cognizant that our identities shape our personal and lived experiences in the world, and this continually impacts how and what we need to heal. I approach therapy from a non-religious standpoint, but have a deep interest in how religion impacts people, including ways that it can act as a source of trauma, while also acknowledging that it can be a source of support.

The relationship you and your child has with their counselor is the true measure of how helpful the counseling experience will be. I value developing a warm, positive, supportive and empathic environment for your family to overcome any challenge that you are facing. In our experience together, you will find healing and growth, and recognize your own strengths, and how they help you and your child work toward building a more positive and rewarding future. Both in your individual lives, and collectively within the family.

I work with adults and teens age 14+ on problems ranging from getting over a breakup to overcoming a lifetime of trauma. I use humor and compassion alongside technique and knowledge to help clients calm their thoughts, develop meaningful connections with others, and resolve even long-standing problems. I use concepts from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, and psychodynamic techniques to identify and challenge damaging thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, ultimately helping clients create a story of themselves that is authentic and empowering.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
