Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, LPC, LCMFT, EMDRCT, RYT
Life is difficult for all of us at times, and it can be normal to become stuck in survival mode following traumatic events or severe life stressors. My heartfelt passion is to facilitate the gap between these temporary survival modes of reaction and a lifestyle that has you or your loved one feeling safe and living in a way that feels unshakably true to yourself and your ideals.
I am thrilled you are here! While I bring the psychological expertise, you know you best. You've got the map and say where to go — I empower you to navigate, process, unpack and heal. I will meet you where you're at as we work to make connections, identify patterns/themes and reframe old stories that no longer serve you. I am also trained in EMDR & approach all treatment through a trauma-informed, systemic, anti-oppression lens, practicing cultural humility. I am a visionary curator of transformative experiences. If you have tried therapy before and are still struggling and/or are ready to change your trajectory, call or email.
I have felt a certain pull in my heart towards working with men and first responders. I understand many of the pressures and struggles associated with being a man in our society. Navigating emotions can be tricky, especially when societal standards only deem some emotions as "acceptable." I also have an interest in working with first responders, as generations of my family have been in that field. Growing up in a family of first responders I have seen the toll that working in these careers can have on an individual as well as their family. The world can be a tough place at times, so I will do my best to help you find a way forward
All people have strengths and challenges. Therapy is a process of using those strengths and resources to address problems people face. I'm interested in understanding you and helping you develop a plan to work with your problems and to build on your strengths.
I am heartened by people's willingness to reach out and courageously rediscover hope. The journey of life can be challenging and overwhelming. There are times when we are left standing at crossroads feeling disconnected or unappreciated. You may be experiencing loneliness, shame or guilt. Or may have reached a point of hopelessness or sheer frustration. I walk along side my clients as they revitalize relationships, empower their authentic self, and realize inherent potential. I provide therapy for couples, families and individuals, and welcome those of any age, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
You may find the life you are living isn't healthy, or is in need of some change. With over 20 years in private practice, I have had the opportunity to help men and women make significant improvements in their relationships and in their life direction. If you are an individual needing to make a significant change, or a couple needing relationship help, I offer an individualized and practical approach. First, we will find what isn't working for you and identify the core changes you want to make. Then, together we will map out realistic steps to make that change happen.
Are you having trouble finding joy and meaning in life, healing from the past, or finding your way? I believe the path can get cloudy for everyone at some point, and that therapy is a great tool for finding clarity and healing. Let me walk with you on your journey towards peacefulness and positive change.
I want you to know what it’s like to live a life of healing. If you feel like you are drowning, overwhelmed, exhausted, or resentful - I can help. Together we will roll up our sleeves and get to work. It will get a little messy, but I’m not scared of the mess. I will support you while you learn to love the things you have previously hidden. Your pain, your thoughts, and your behaviors can all make sense when we explore them with kind curiosity. It is time to take off the shackles of your past, and live tomorrow more free than you were yesterday.
Life will become complicated for all during some season. No one is exempt from that reality. The good news is that we do not have to navigate it alone and without guidance. Quality counseling is able to not only address current pain but identify the underlying causes that lead to our symptoms and "stuck" spots.
I am Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT) in the states of Kansas and Missouri. In addition to being in private practice, I teach a graduate course at the University of Kansas as well as provide guidance and therapy skills to graduate level students at Friends University. I specialize in couples therapy and maternal mental health. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which I use with my in my trauma work.
I love my job! I have 30 years of experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, and helping clients face change in their lives. The first step is already taken as you reach out for help. My style is very interactive and I do both short and long term therapy. I am currently giving clients a choice between in person and using easy access on line teletherapy that is HIPPA compliant. Give me a call and lets talk, I answer and return calls personally.
My approach is grounded in meeting folks where they are in the moment, and not asking them to feel, look, or act like someone they’re not. I believe that every person has worth and value because of their identity, and I love helping other people tap into their worth. I believe that all humans have the innate capacity to not only overcome difficult experiences, but to heal and thrive, and when we overcome difficult experiences or emotions, we are stronger and more resilient. Lasting change requires work, but when we put in that work we harness the power to define our experience rather than letting our experience define us.
Everyone experiences life stressors and at times, can become overwhelmed by them. I will work with you to help you navigate through the obstacles you are facing and hopefully overcome them. Whether you struggle with anxiety or depression, a particular life transition, or a more serious mental health condition, therapy can be beneficial for you. Let's work together to help you live your best life!
I am a native of Kansas City, MO, born into a big family, raised by a school teacher and a pastor. With 30 years experience in mental health, I have a conviction about the human capacity to grow, develop, and adapt throughout life. I appreciate that each person brings to therapy a unique self: the combination of one's personal characteristics, early family relationships, and life experiences. I practice from a psychodynamic perspective to better understand your current situation in a safe therapeutic environment of curiosity and collaboration.
Maybe you're feeling stuck. Maybe you are seeking answers but not able to see through the darkness. Maybe peace feels impossible. Maybe you're questioning who you are or going through a life transition. Maybe it's your relationship or parenting or past hurts. This life experience is filled with highs, lows, and in-between moments. At times, we all want someone to join in our journey and walk alongside us so we can feel supported. I am here to meet you where you are in your life right now. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe that all of life is relational, whether that is within or outside with family, friends, society.
Are you a parent that is feeling overwhelmed or exhausted? Do your child's emotional or behavioral problems dominate your day? If your child or family is facing challenges, I'm here to help! Yes I have availability. No, I'm not in network with insurance. Your out of network benefits may cover. I'm very easy to talk to. Do you have trouble sleeping? Are you overwhelmed? Do you have a sense of doom? Have friends and/or family commented on the amount of alcohol or drugs you can take? If so, you may benefit from seeing me. Since 1996, I have worked extensively with people struggling with Substance Use Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and Grief. I also take a secular approach to those who have experienced religious trauma. If you have struggled with any of these issues, I can definitely help.
"Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." C.G. Jung-- You might suffer from anxiety, depression, grief, and/or relationship issues, but the key is that you are willing to explore why. My philosophy is holistic in that I feel like it is important to examine each part of life because I truly believe everything is connected when it concerns mental, emotional, and physical suffering and pain. I have recently completed a yoga teacher certification so I am able to incorporate somatic principles and movement into my work with clients.
