Everyone has their own unique story. Everyone brings their own strengths and weaknesses to any situation. And let's face it, life is a journey full of highs and lows and twists and turns. I aim to help people discover or rediscover their strengths and values to lead a full and meaningful life. You may feel depressed, anxious, nervous, uncertain, lost, hopeless, or all of the above and more. Together, we can navigate life on your terms with goals you create for your own unique therapy experience.
I provide a therapy called ERP (exposure and response prevention) for people with OCD. If you’re reading this, you probably know that OCD can take on a life of its own. My clients are trying their best to keep themselves and their loved ones safe, yet OCD can become incredibly time consuming and take attention away from the very activities and people that matter most. With treatment, my clients are increasingly able to feel a sense of safety in their lives and join others instead of needing to control the moment.
Maybe your anxiety or stress is compounded by intersectional identities such as gender, sexuality, or race. Maybe you find yourself doom scrolling on social media in order to numb the world around you, have difficulty communicating with loved ones, or are searching for your sense of self after years of being told your true self was not enough. Maybe it’s even 2 am as you read this after a sleepless hour of thinking about all the embarrassing things that you’ve experienced. Now, wait. Take a breath, notice anything coming up for you and acknowledge it. It can be here without disrupting your purpose.
I have 30 years of experience as a cognitive, behavioral and certified EMDR psychologist. I believe all of us want to live purposeful lives, but sometimes we need a little help getting through trying times. My ideal client wants to change an uncomfortable life situation. Trauma, loss, anxiety, depression and addiction can freeze us in our tracks, and we sometimes need direction to get moving again. I take an individualized case approach to help clients with whatever issue is challenging them at a particular time in their life. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups.
Feeling stuck, chaotic, overwhelmed, purposeless, anxious? Do you ever find yourself doing the same things over and over wishing you would have a different outcome? Do you feel consumed by your thoughts? Do you feel like you and your partner just don’t get each other? Often time asking for help and finding help is overwhelming. You want to make a change, make things better, but you don’t know how. You want to feel like you again - not to just keep surviving, but start living intentionally and passionately. You want the anxiety, the intrusive thoughts and the sleepless nights to end - to be present with yourself and your loved ones.
My motto in my practice is “we can do hard things.” My approach is client-centered and I believe in meeting you where you want to be met. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Missouri and Kansas. I am now accepting insurance through Aetna, Optum, and Cigna. I enjoy integrating various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered, and Mindfulness followed through by using strength-based and solutions-focused approaches.
Stuck. Trapped. Controlling. Anxious. Over it. Apathetic. Do you find yourself resonating with these words? Maybe you feel yourself enraged at little things your partner or kids do, and then hating yourself after you snap. Perhaps you used to get excited about a weekend brunch, meeting a friend for a coffee, or strolling Target alone - but now you only feel apathetic and empty. What if you could find your spark again? Does that sound possible? Maybe going back to where you used to be isn’t even your goal: maybe your goal is the ability to be present, without nagging anxieties and crippling depression. Either way, therapy can help.
Hello! My name is Isaiah Robinson-McBride and I have been inspired by my personal journey addressing my mental health to provide those seeking counseling to reach their full potential within a therapeutic environment.
Transitions are a natural progression in life, which at times can leave us feeling alone, overwhelmed, and terrified. Much like the seasons; our hopes, dreams, and relationships change. Maneuvering through these chapters in our lives can be a daunting process. In my experience, when a person can share their struggles within therapy, they can begin to better understand their thoughts, emotions, and how this influences their relationships with others.
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC-S, NCC, CPT
There are many presenting issues that might bring you to counseling. Finding a therapist that you can connect with and build an alliance with is important to your success in therapy. I work very hard to create a relationship that will provide you the safety and warmth that you need to explore your experiences; I am very comfortable earning your trust. I use different treatment modalities, depending upon which is appropriate for you personally. Empathy is the primary tool used to give you the safety you need to explore your inner world while we begin to understand your experiences together.
*Not currently accepting new clients* I believe the most important principles of therapy are humor, compassion and education. I am committed to helping you experience positive change, improve relationships, and gain a greater sense of personal strength and growth so you can better enjoy each day. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?
I provide psychological assessment and psychotherapy services. Though I understand the value of "diagnosing" a person's particular problem, I'm definitely against labeling a person as such. A person's difficulties--you name it: anxiety, trauma, depression--is what it means in part to be human. Everyone has some type of challenge, to various degrees (and certainly, some more than others). What a client requires, in many cases, is adequate resolution about negative things that has happened to him or her in life. Also, clients often need new skills in dealing with life's current and future expected challenges.
My aim is to help individuals and couples who are experiencing repetitive, entrenched patterns of problems or symptoms. These problems may appear in the realm of mood (emotions), behavior, or be physically lodged (psychosomatic). Disturbances such as these are often found to have their roots in templates formed earlier in life, but exert force upon present-day perceptions, emotions, cognitions, and interpersonal life. My role is to facilitate an in-depth understanding of the understructure of these mental and emotional constellations (usually out of awareness) which uphold and perpetuate the problems and patterns in need of modification or relief.

Life will become complicated for all during some season. No one is exempt from that reality. The good news is that we do not have to navigate it alone and without guidance. Quality counseling is able to not only address current pain but identify the underlying causes that lead to our symptoms and "stuck" spots.
Dr. Maxwell specializes in treating chronically turbulent emotions, as well as difficulties relating comfortably and effectively to others. Sometimes these experiences go along with a feeling of not knowing who one is, as well as making rash choices one often regrets. These experiences may or may not be related to abuse(s) and/or neglect experienced in one’s childhood and teenage years. Clinically, these experiences sometimes manifest as personality disorders and/or complex posttraumatic stress disorder. He also helps people curb unruly anxiety, combat avoidance, disrupt depressive thinking patterns, and reshape unhelpful habits.
Find what you truly seek. You've spent enough time searching. Let's get you out of this place. You see the traps you keep falling into, the ones you can’t make it through alone. You know better but need help to get there. Find liberation from your bad habits. Caring so much about meaningless thoughts, tangling yourself in webs of superficiality, losing yourself to old coping mechanisms. Be done with all of it. Let’s do something about those familiar grooves you get stuck in. I work with clients who can see their patterns and behaviors and know there’s a better way. You wanting to change and grow is the key ingredient.
Are you having trouble finding joy and meaning in life, healing from the past, or finding your way? I believe the path can get cloudy for everyone at some point, and that therapy is a great tool for finding clarity and healing. Let me walk with you on your journey towards peacefulness and positive change.
The focus of my work is helping men and women who are struggling with intimacy disorders and compulsive sexual/relationship behaviors (also known as sex, porn or love addiction) that have had negative impacts on a person's relationships, overall emotional well being, health, family, career and other aspects of life. Struggles with sexuality can involve a great deal of pain, guilt and shame. If this is your experience, finding a professional who can provide a safe and non-judgemental space is crucial. In addition, I work with individuals who experience difficulties creating and maintaining intimate connections in relationships.
