"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change" - Carl Rogers. Accepting difficult situations in life and moving towards change is a journey you don't have to face alone. I have 10+ years of experience working with adolescents and adults who struggle with overwhelming emotions, feeling disconnected from others, poor relationships, poor sense of identity, thoughts of
suicide
and self-harm. These symptoms and behaviors are often a result of feeling unheard, invalidated and/or traumatic experiences.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral issues, self harm,
suicidal ideation
and much more.
Accepting new clients! I'm so glad you are here. The hardest part of getting help is reaching out to make that first appointment and you are one step closer. Childhood mental health issues have been rising for awhile now and we saw an even bigger increase the past few years. Not only are our children struggling, it is hard work learning to parent our children with mental health needs. Navigating depression, anxiety, mood swings, trauma, etc is not meant to be done alone. I believe in working alongside you, your child, and family as we tackle issues together.

It can be overwhelmingly scary to know where to begin in your healing journey. Wounds can build upon one another until it all feels like a tangled mess. Childhood and family wounds can dictate the lens in which you see the world. Looking through that lens can be complex and difficult to navigate alone. Whether the symptoms you are experiencing are affecting your current circumstances, creating self-worth issues or relationship difficulties, I love to meet you where you are at, and help you develop goals that lead to a fulfilling life.

Transition feels like a natural progression throughout life. Much like seasons change from Summer to Fall; we experience the ebb and flow within relationships, dreams, families, and our internal worlds. Maneuvering through changes can be terrifying and sometimes overwhelming. I find through sharing our struggles one can start the process of gaining insight into ourselves and our relationships. It is my belief that most people have an innate need for connection and a natural desire to be seen, heard, and understood. I find patients begin to develop stronger connections and experience more lasting relief through our relationship.

It’s okay to say, "I'm not okay." If trying to return to “normal life” post pandemic is harder than you thought & you’re sad or anxious and not sure why- you are not alone. Life is messy but good therapy ends. Maybe your life looks nothing like it did two years ago & you’re reeling and only now catching your breath and struggling to breathe. Maybe your life looks the same and you feel different but you’re stuck, overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next. What we allow will continue & lasting change requires work. Often starting the work & reaching out is a daunting task but when we avoid our stories, that's when they define us.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
