Having a specialist to help you untangle yourself from
obsessive
thoughts and compulsions can be essential.
I provide a therapy called ERP (exposure and response prevention) for people with
OCD
. If you’re reading this, you probably know that
OCD
can take on a life of its own. My clients are trying their best to keep themselves and their loved ones safe, yet
OCD
can become incredibly time consuming and take attention away from the very activities and people that matter most. With treatment, my clients are increasingly able to feel a sense of safety in their lives and join others instead of needing to control the moment.

Obsessive
-Compulsive Disorder, Specific Phobias) as well as depression, and have clients who have been successful with each of them.
I have had the pleasure of working as a therapist since 2001 and have been helpful to people struggling with a variety of difficulties. My clients generally describe me as kind, gentle, calm, and humorous. I practice primarily from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, but also incorporate other models to augment cognitive therapy.

People who choose to work with me often struggle with various anxieties, fears and incredibly high standards. These issues can often manifest as
OCD
, anxiety, depressiveness and perfectionism. Many times, these difficulties spread into other areas of life and can impact school, work, family and even just engaging in activities that were once enjoyable. I help people and support systems navigate and learn strategies to manage these issues in order to better function and to be happier overall.

I treat all sorts of mental disorders including depression, anxiety, panic,
OCD
, PTSD, Adult Aspergers Syndrome, Bipolar Disorder, Substance abuse, relationship and family issues.
Mental health is part of your physical health. You cannot have one without the other. No one is exempt from facing mental health struggles at one time or another in their life. It is not uncommon during times of mental health struggles, either it be an isolated incident of panic, short-term and long-term anxiety, tragedy, situational depression, or circumstances that were out of your control that caused you to have a "new normal." Therapy will alleviate these stressors through a process of personal insight, change, and opening your eyes to a new way of seeing your life and how you react to it.

I have been a practicing clinical social worker for the past eight years, and I firmly hold the belief that meeting my clients where they're at is essential to helping them improve. It's for this reason that my ideal client is someone who desires an understanding of their mental health condition, is ready to make changes, and understands that therapy is a process and they're willing to take that journey together. I work best with people who would like help with treating a range of Eating Disorders,
Obsessive
and Compulsive Disorders, and Mood Disorders such as anxiety and depression.

I am a survivor of severe depression and anxiety and a highly sensitive person, both of which provide me with an ability to practice empathy as well as laugh and cry with clients in therapy. I work with individuals who are ready to engage all parts of their stories (past, present and future) to move beyond their trauma, addictions, anxiety and depression in order to live lives of fullness and abundance. I draw on my experience raising four young children and being a husband of 10+ years to help others navigate their relationships.

How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
