My work is rooted in an anti-racist, LGBTQIA -affirming, feminist, and body-positive framework; allowing space for you in a compassionate and non-judgmental setting.
Maybe your anxiety or stress is compounded by intersectional identities such as gender, sexuality, or race. Maybe you find yourself doom scrolling on social media in order to numb the world around you, have difficulty communicating with loved ones, or are searching for your sense of self after years of being told your true self was not enough. Maybe it’s even 2 am as you read this after a sleepless hour of thinking about all the embarrassing things that you’ve experienced. Now, wait. Take a breath, notice anything coming up for you and acknowledge it. It can be here without disrupting your purpose.

Did you know that it’s ok, not to be ok? Before you can heal, change and transform yourself, you must accept where you are and what you feel right now. Being confronted with obstacles and stressors in life can be confusing and challenging, but you do not have to tackle them alone. If you’re reading this, you’ve already taken the first, and hardest step; reaching out for help. No matter what struggles you may be facing, always remember, the comeback is stronger than the setback. As a Licensed Psychotherapist, with an educational background in Behavioral Neuroscience & Clinical Psychology; I will help you, better understand, YOU.

I am an LGBTQ + ally and specialize in positive approaches to becoming your best self, including autism support.
Do you wish there was someone out there that understood you? Do you feel separate from others, different somehow and struggle to find someone to relate to? Possibly you feel inauthentic in your relationships with others or in the roles that you find yourself in. Human connection is something that we all need and strive for and yet is difficult to obtain at times especially with our fast-paced, individual-centric lives. The therapeutic relationship can provide a safe space to explore identities, challenge obstacles to connection and learn to overcome our difficulties in new and exciting ways.

Feeling stuck, apathetic, overwhelmed, angry, worried, depressed, anxious, hopeless, or disconnected is exhausting and isolating. Many of our systems are designed to keep you this way, and you deserve more. I believe every person has an innate resilience, that helps us adapt to an ever changing world. I work to meet people where they are, connecting to the strength, courage, and insight already present and exploring areas for transformation and growth.

I have enjoyed working with people from all walks of life, including survivors of domestic violence, members of the LGBT + community, people involved in the legal system, and people who just don't feel like they fit in.
Coming to therapy can be scary! Do you worry that your therapist won’t “get it” or will tell you how to live your life? I understand that it can be hard to ask for help, and that it takes a brave person to decide to make changes in their life. I believe therapy should be a time where you feel comfortable and safe to be your true self! I am a strengths-focused therapist who won’t judge you, tell you what to do, or give you advice you didn’t ask for. You are the expert in your life, and your problems aren't too much- my job is to help you understand yourself better, help you function in your daily life, and help you find healing.

Our clients often identify as LGBTQIA + / Queer , Non-monogamous, sex positive or sex neutral, neurodivergence, and or disabled and living within Missouri. Clients often start therapy to work on goals to learn more about identities, setting boundaries with others in their lives, opening up their relationship, learning more about themselves or others gender or sexual expression. Through individual, relationship, or family counseling we work to increase healthy communication based on our values, instead of assumed social norms.

I have expertise with people with eating disorders, clients who have experienced trauma, and with LGBTQ clients.
I have been working with clients since 1991. Over the course of my training and experience, my style of therapy has evolved to an integrative approach combining humanistic, feminist, and psychodynamic theories of personality development with an approach that emphasizes the adaptive development of identity across the lifespan within broad interpersonal, social, and cultural contexts. I seek to find what is working well for you, help you understand the experiences that brought you to this place in your life, and use your strengths to help you grow and develop insight as well as create behavioral change.

I specialize in working transgender and non-binary youth and their families on matters related to gender identity.
My approach to therapy is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). A core idea in ACT is that trying too hard to get rid of or control our emotions tends to backfire. Instead of trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings (e.g., anxiety & depression), I will help you learn to react differently to them so that you can keep your focus on living a meaningful and fulfilling life based on what’s important to you. We will work together to set meaningful goals to address your concerns–whether they relate to life transitions, depression, anxiety, body image, grief/loss, job or academic stress, or gender & sexuality.

I welcome LGBTQ + people, and I've been working from an anti-oppressive framework for over a decade.
What if you don't have to suffer in order to feel accomplished or satisfied with the life you’re creating? When life feels like it’s moving at a dizzying pace, this stress shows up in our minds and our bodies. I specialize in working with people who are ready to stop feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Together, we'll explore what hasn’t been working for you and figure out subtle shifts that can help you feel more at ease or move forward with more clarity. We'll use the best of traditional talk therapy approaches along with mind-body techniques to help you feel more clear, connected, and calm.

How can I find a therapist in Kansas City?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
