I work with all ages and have training in couples, family , and play therapy.
Life is beautiful even through all its struggles and disappointments. I believe the connections we make with others give us purpose and drive to fulfill our dreams. Though sometimes our intentions do not manifest and we become stagnant and distressed. In my therapy I like to focus on what we can control...ourselves. To take a look inward and view our most delicate fears, insecurities, and desires can be a lot of hard work. I approach each client with this recognition and strive to make a true connection to help foster self-improvement and life satisfaction.

Accepting new clients! I'm so glad you are here. The hardest part of getting help is reaching out to make that first appointment and you are one step closer. Childhood mental health issues have been rising for awhile now and we saw an even bigger increase the past few years. Not only are our children struggling, it is hard work learning to parent our children with mental health needs. Navigating depression, anxiety, mood swings, trauma, etc is not meant to be done alone. I believe in working alongside you, your child, and family as we tackle issues together.

Provide a broad range of psychological services in a private practice setting to adults & children, including evaluations individual, family & couples therapy.
Mental health is part of your physical health. You cannot have one without the other. No one is exempt from facing mental health struggles at one time or another in their life. It is not uncommon during times of mental health struggles, either it be an isolated incident of panic, short-term and long-term anxiety, tragedy, situational depression, or circumstances that were out of your control that caused you to have a "new normal." Therapy will alleviate these stressors through a process of personal insight, change, and opening your eyes to a new way of seeing your life and how you react to it.

We are not meant to live life alone, but rather deeply involved in relationships. Some of these relationships are highly successful, while others have come with great loss, significant struggle or just the every day difficulty of learning to live and enjoy life with another person. I believe in the value of working through personal problems in the context of building stronger relationships. I will help you work through this on a personal level or with whomever you are needing to have a restored relationship with.

Being a parent is a joy like none other. This may however become challenging if your child (especially a teenager) battles emotional, behavioral, eating disorders, lack of confidence or addiction problems. Teenagers with these issues often argue, have hard time expressing emotions, have disruptive behavior, sudden change in eating habits and conscious of their body image. They might resort to use of alcohol or other drugs to escape struggles. This does not mean you are a bad parent; it is just a difficult time for your family . You just need someone to walk you through during this difficult time.

I work from a compassionate, person-centered perspective that includes Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems, and EMDR.
Suffering, while valuable, doesn’t have to define you or your story. If you’re wanting to move beyond old hurts, or feeling stuck despite desiring change, together we can re-author your story to include healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and being. In addition to my office in Brookside, KCMO, I am also offering sessions via Telehealth for those who do not wish to leave their homes due to COVID-19 (client must reside in MO).

After moving to Kansas City, I pursued a MA in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy .
For over ten years, I have worked to help individuals and couples empower themselves and achieve desired change in their lives. I believe in a direct, yet compassionate approach to therapy, which stems from my extensive training and experience practicing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Act and Commitment Therapy, therapy for high-conflict couples, and behavioral interventions for eating disordered clients. I focus on utilizing evidence-based therapies, self care, gratitude, mindfulness, skills training, and the client's personal value system in order to nurture hope and help clients achieve their goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
