My aim is to help individuals and
couples
who are experiencing repetitive, entrenched patterns of problems or symptoms. These problems may appear in the realm of mood (emotions), behavior, or be physically lodged (psychosomatic). Disturbances such as these are often found to have their roots in templates formed earlier in life, but exert force upon present-day perceptions, emotions, cognitions, and interpersonal life. My role is to facilitate an in-depth understanding of the understructure of these mental and emotional constellations (usually out of awareness) which uphold and perpetuate the problems and patterns in need of modification or relief.

Life can seem like a chore rather than a joy. Choosing a therapist you feel comfortable with is important. I help individuals work through the worst to discover their best. Therapy is about the
relationship
and authenticity is important. I love my work and my clients can feel that. I meet with clients inside my home. It’s traditional psychotherapy in the best way.

I personally come from a school that is EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) focused, so when it comes to
couples
we use a lot of the Gottman cycle as the basis of sessions.
My initial desire to do therapy started with wanting to help minority men take some of the worlds weight off of their shoulders. I am also strongly motivated to help
couples
find their
relationship
goals. As of now I can help those who reside in Kansas or Missouri.

I long to walk alongside women and
couples
as they pursue healing and growth in their lives.
Life is a journey full of ups and downs, twists and turns, dry valleys, and scenic mountaintops. At times, it can be difficult to navigate. We may resist going in a direction that feels unknown because it is uncomfortable to do things we've never done before; however, it is in the places of discomfort that we can create the most growth and discover our most authentic selves. Maybe you feel stuck, hurt, or abandoned. Maybe you feel stressed, alone, or tired. Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself or the people in your life. No matter where you find yourself on your journey, there is hope.

It's hard to find a therapist. Especially when you're not feeling your best. I applaud you for getting this far. Now it's time to invest in your
relationship
with yourself. I know what it’s like to feel alone with your problems. Maybe you have no one to talk to. Or maybe you feel bad making your friends, your family, or your
partner
listen to your problems again. I know what that feels like, and I’m here. I’m ready to listen. It’s time to let go of anxiety, sadness, frustration, anger, and shame. I want to process these things with you. You don’t have to go through this alone anymore.

Do you ever feel like it is you against the world? Or wonder if there is anyone “in your corner”? This world can throw all sorts of difficulties our way and sometimes it is helpful to know you are not alone in the fight. Those difficulties may present with symptoms of depression, anxiety, fear, worthlessness, addiction, trauma, negative thinking, or loss. I understand first-hand how tempting it is to give up the fight, but I also know the joyful victory that comes with healing and freedom. I am holding hope for you even if, right now, you are not able to hope for yourself. I believe there is abundant life and wholeness for YOU!

Are you feeling overwhelmed by life? Are
relationship
challenges weighing you down? Do you have concerns that you might be using "a little too much" alcohol or other drugs to cope with it all? Using a warm, individually tailored approach, I offer you a space to process what's on your mind. We'll work together to help you find ways to cope with life, improve your relationships and restore your sense of joy in activities. I currently serve as the program manager and clinical supervisor at a nonprofit substance use treatment center here in Kansas City, but I'm now accepting new clients for private individual counseling.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
