Life is hard, and everyone needs support at one time or another. If you're experiencing anxiety, depression , tough relationships, or difficult transitions, you're not alone. You might lack confidence in your recent life choices. You might feel as if you don't have many options right now. You might feel stuck in a never-ending cycle of the "same old". Again, I say... you're not alone.

Life can be filled with challenging, yet beautiful moments when we are truly present in our day to day lives. I believe that we can take each opportunity to learn, grow, and cultivate joy to help us feel better connected to others, ourselves, and the world around us. I am passionate about working with those who are experiencing depression , anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues and life transitions. My approach is an eclectic one, which primarily uses principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), tailored to the needs of each client.

I have been a practicing clinical social worker for the past eight years, and I firmly hold the belief that meeting my clients where they're at is essential to helping them improve. It's for this reason that my ideal client is someone who desires an understanding of their mental health condition, is ready to make changes, and understands that therapy is a process and they're willing to take that journey together. I work best with people who would like help with treating a range of Eating Disorders, Obsessive and Compulsive Disorders, and Mood Disorders such as anxiety and depression .

Did you feel neglected and unloved when you were a child? Did you feel lonely and ostracized if you tried to tell your parents or other adults about your feelings or if you tried to ask them questions about life? In your adult life, do you have difficulty relating to others? Do you feel depressed and alienated from others? Do you have difficulty knowing your own feelings or how you feel in your own body? Are you afraid to trust yourself, to be yourself? I've worked for 20 years with adults abused, traumatized, and/or neglected in childhood. .

Trauma affects our brains in ways that can make us feel stuck in constant survival mode. It can be exhausting. I offer strategies to help clients process their experiences, cope more effectively, and move forward with their lives. You can find relief! And you don’t have to do it alone. Your needs are unique to your story, so your treatment should be unique as well. Whether the root of the issue is behavioral, emotional, traumatic, or complicated, I aim to help my clients make this discovery for themselves and collaborate in therapy, so it best fits their needs and values.

Suffering, while valuable, doesn’t have to define you or your story. If you’re wanting to move beyond old hurts, or feeling stuck despite desiring change, together we can re-author your story to include healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and being. In addition to my office in Brookside, KCMO, I am also offering sessions via Telehealth for those who do not wish to leave their homes due to COVID-19 (client must reside in MO).

Family dynamics are often complicated and difficult. While we often find comfort and stability within our family, it is all too common to experience problems that we’re just not quite prepared to address. Parents may feel unsure of themselves or overwhelmed by increasing demands on their time and attention. Children and teens may struggle to feel they can open up with their parents for several reasons. Communication breaks down and the family that once felt so close knit is starting to drift apart. While we know we need help, it can be difficult to take that first step and reach out.

Hi, I’m Katherine, and I’m glad you found me. I love working with individuals and couples who seek to carve out a path of hope and newly imagined potential for themselves. Whether that’s moving through a transition, trauma, loss, or just wanting to feel “unstuck”, I accompany my clients through the muddy waters of emotions and life circumstances toward greater clarity and new possibilities, finding a more full version of self. Attuning to your own well of intuition and finding a sense of direction within your own dreams is what we can work toward together.

Find what you truly seek. You've spent enough time searching. Let's get you out of this place. You see the traps you keep falling into, the ones you can’t make it through alone. You know better but need help to get there. Find liberation from your bad habits. Caring so much about meaningless thoughts, tangling yourself in webs of superficiality, losing yourself to old coping mechanisms. Be done with all of it. Let’s do something about those familiar grooves you get stuck in. I work with clients who can see their patterns and behaviors and know there’s a better way. You wanting to change and grow is the key ingredient.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
