Life provides many challenges to maintaining a healthy, happy relationship . Our relationships can be a great source of strength, but they can also cause pain and heartache. Whether you currently feel committed to building a better relationship , ambivalent about the future of your relationship , or fear that your relationship is on the brink of collapse--therapy can often help. Through looking at yourself, your partner , and your relationship in new ways, I help couples gain confidence and clarity about the next steps for their relationship and I help couples build satisfying relationships that last and are worth wanting.

In my sessions, you are invited to acknowledge shame and choose vulnerability by discussing sexuality, gender, power, desire, race, religion, disability, relationship structure, body size, money, and beyond.
I believe that we all deserve the opportunity to be active participants in our lives and partnerships. In therapy, we can work toward this goal by noticing patterns and themes while building the confidence to make meaningful change. My client-centered approach means that you define your own goals and I challenge you to achieve them, offering support and understanding along the way. When working with clients I bring systemic issues into the room by acknowledging the negative impacts of a society that was made to empower far too few of us.

Finding love is hard, and then when you do find love it is a whole different kind of hard to maintain that relationship . You may have noticed that your relationship feels harder than it used to, you feel disconnected from your partner , or are having more feelings of anger and resentment. While you are not alone in these struggles or feelings, you also do not have to continue to feel that way. Seeking help for your relationship can help you rediscover those initial “sparks” and even help you develop a deeper connection. Growth and change are hard and often scary, but the results are always worth it.

Are you in a romantic relationship that is feeling heavy instead of fun & fulfilling? If so, let's chat. Relationships aren't simple & easy, but they hopefully bring positive value to your life, so let's figure out what you and your partner are contributing to staying in the same stuck place that might be getting in the way. If you are tired of lack of closeness, constant fighting, broken trust, or disagreements about what the right way to put the fork in the dishwasher is, then you might benefit from finding other ways of interacting by determining what type of relationship you want to build and what type of partner you hope to be.

I have experience working with individuals and couples and am passionate about working with issues of identity exploration, intimacy, grief, trauma, and infidelity.
I think we are all wired for and worthy of love and connection. Whether that is connection to ourselves or to others, I believe the desire to belong lives inside each of us. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, though. There can be so many places where shame, doubt, old wounds, and miscommunication disorient and disconnect us. As a therapist, I consider it a great privilege to be invited into your world and to get to partner with you as we collaboratively work through some of the things that might be keeping you stuck.

You can take your life back from trauma and develop a healthy and harmonious relationship with yourself.
Wouldn't it be nice to feel in control of your emotions, to not have so many ups and downs from day to day? Your inner voice is downright disrespectful and has nothing but constant criticism. It tells you you're not good enough and that it's all your fault. Your anxiety is high, your motivation is low, and your emotions are all over the place. Some nights you can hardly get to sleep. This can't be life. There must be something wrong with me, you think. If this sounds familiar, we should talk.

Keeping passion and connection in relationships while also thriving as individuals is a goal that many of us have. Balancing these aspects of life can be difficult, especially when life stressors, mental or emotional disorders, or trauma present themselves. My goal is to help clients achieve their goals of connection and personal growth, while challenging them to act on the best parts of themselves. I am passionate about working with couples struggling with intimacy and desire issues. My approach in working with couples centers on differentiation based therapies and encourages both individual and couple growth.

My goal is to increase personal growth and fulfillment in the lives of each partner and couple by creating a space for openly sharing and addressing patterns that detract from connection.
I believe that relationships are one of the best resources that we have. It can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and hopeless when our relationships feel like an additional stressor on top of an already busy, and sometimes isolating life.

I primarily work with clients focused on their relationship , individually or as a couple.
Relationships are incredibly rewarding but often challenge us in more ways than expected. Strong relationships are the foundation for a thriving life but for a variety of reasons, life gets in the way of thriving. Maybe you are looking for your relationship to thrive again or maybe you feel your problem is much bigger. No matter the issue, I believe therapy can help. My goal is for couples to look at themselves, their partner and their relationship in a new light. This creates the potential to have passionate and connected relationships while also growing as individuals.

Life, laughter, and love are important to living life wholeheartedly, but psychological pain can get in the way. Abuse in the context of a close relationship or a family can create the most pervasive and persistent psych-ache, and may be passed from generation to generation. Whether the source of pain is past trauma, worry about the future, or even current jobs or relationships, I am here to help! I often see clients whose trauma began in domestic abuse in the forms of emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, or financial abuses.

I specialize in working with couples and relationship issues, as well as individuals struggling with self-esteem and shame, and trauma.
I believe that all humans have the capacity for growth, but that growth is often thwarted by a lack of self-compassion or self-confrontation. I aim to help clients nurture their deepest and most hidden wounds, to examine the motives driving their actions, and to access new levels of joy and fulfillment by honoring the best parts of themselves. I specialize in working with couples where the power is imbalanced between partners, often resulting in feelings of helplessness. I help couples struggling with communication, disconnection, contemplating divorce or separation.

It is a collaborative relationship with someone who wants to take those extra steps toward a more fulfilling life, career, intimate relationship .
We all have challenges in life. Sometimes those challenges overwhelm our natural coping abilities. Sometimes relationships feel unmanageable. Sometimes habits have become addictions. Sometimes we get so worried about the kids, work, LIFE that we stop sleeping, eating or exercising. Sometimes things feel so dark it feels hard to go on. Sometimes we just lose enthusiasm for things we used to enjoy. Sometimes we just feel worthless and hopeless.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
