Years of deep, heavy, or significant trauma? Feeling broken and unfixable? You are the person I want to work with! This trauma causes intrusive thoughts, memories, flashbacks, a short temper, reckless behavior, or a negative emotional state. We will do real work to understand why your behaviors and thoughts are the way they are, and we will find solutions and answers. I do not believe therapy should last years and my sessions reflect this.

I like to work from several models, including, CBT, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Hypnosis, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Here you are, looking for some help-so well done, you! Sometimes part of us wants help and another part wants to "do it on our own". Therefore, it is understandable that it might be no small task to make that first call. AND since sorting thoughts, feelings, and worries can feel overwhelming, I appreciate your courage and wisdom in seeking professional assistance, because no one has to do this alone. Getting to "better" is often very collaborative. Together, we can find a healthy and safe way to discover, sort and map the confusion/worry and then move forward. When you are ready, please give me a call. I am right here.

Life offers us all challenges, and sometimes those challenges may seem unbearable or especially unique. Some of us experience difficulties from the time we are little children- trauma, abuse, neglect. We each have unique abilities and strengths. Sometimes, we have trouble accessing our strengths, but you have gifts in your being that are your gifts and strengths alone. My goal in working with you is to act as a catalyst -to encourage you to find your talents, abilities, and strengths that will serve you in coping with whatever difficulty life has given you.

My work is grounded in evidence-based therapies ( EMDR, DBT, ARC, TF-CBT, Person-Centered, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and more), and I’m dedicated to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel supported and understood.
If you're looking for therapy that will help you to move forward in your life, you're in the right place. I'm a licensed clinician with over 15 years of experience supporting people through anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, fertility/postpartum issues, and the trauma of life's heaviest moments. I believe therapy should be both a place where you feel truly understood and a space where meaningful change happens. In our work together, you'll have room to talk, process, and be heard...but we won't stop there. I'll also help you learn skills, deepen your self-awareness, and process through grief or trauma.

Your family may be feeling like it is being turned upside down as your developing young adult struggles to find their place in the world. I work within the family system to re-establish the balance that is necessary for a healthy, growing family and find order within the chaos. Teens and young people may appear to be rebelling; fighting back against all of the families efforts to offer guidance and support. We can work together to turn this energy into a productivity and success in academic, social, and all other aspects of life.

I use EMDR to help people process trauma.
I'm a therapist for life transitions, trauma, and sexuality. If you struggle to self-actualize within a specific context or struggle with specific memories, I'm probably a good fit for you. I love finding clients' personal truths and especially enjoy helping people appreciate their nuances and ask for what they want. I'm in my mid-40's and enlist "beginner's mind" as well as professional experience and theories. I work hard and get into details!

EMDR and compassion-focused therapies are my specialties.
As a queer person, hard choices are nothing new. How do I keep me and my loved ones safe? How do I live a meaningful life when unprecedented times keep coming? I want to break away from anxiety but the world keeps telling me to be afraid. These questions are hard to answer without anxiety or trauma, but are more overwhelming when our past and future show up. Here's the catch, though: no matter what we have endured or continue to face in life, there are many ways to continue on. Sometimes it's hard to find. But that's where sometimes we need a little bit of extra help. If this is you, hello, and welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
