My specialized training in play-based approaches equips me to creatively come alongside children , help them recognize their value, and shift their hindering behaviors.
You strive to stay afloat and yet find yourself feeling stuck, exhausted, and disconnected from others and from yourself. You attempt to manage your overpowering emotions in both healthy and unhealthy ways and yet you're still overwhelmed and anxious. You long to know that you are enough, to experience peace, and for the important relationships in your life to thrive. Or, perhaps a young person in your family is struggling with maladaptive behavior, self-image, or relationships. You long for them to see their innate worthiness and experience joy again.

I have worked with children and families in faith based and secular settings, both volunteer and professional.
Are you feeling alone, overwhelmed, or just trying hard to maintain? Are you struggling in a relationship? Are you frustrated by the day to day conflict with your teenager? Do unresolved painful memories keep you from the happy fulfilled life you were meant to live? Let's work together to find the answers you need. Counseling is the first step in regaining control of your life. As a therapist, I love working with people, finding out what is unique about them personally, and seeing how that can be used to work through difficult circumstances. .

NOT CURRENTLY ABLE TO ACCEPT NEW CLIENTS. All of my work is based on a foundation of respect for individual and family strengths and abilities. I provide a comfortable place for folks to identify and explore issues that may be getting in the way of happy family relationships. Everyone has unique skills that they often don't recognize. Together we identify them and then fill in gaps with added skills. I have a special interest in supporting kids who have challenges that affect their behavior and their social interactions. I also assist children and families who've experienced loss through death, divorce or transition.

Does your child seem sad or withdrawn, become defiant or aggressive at home? Are they having a hard time making friends at school? Have they ever come to you and said they have nothing to live for? What about you, are you struggling as a parent due to your child ’s emotional needs or is it causing conflicts within your family or marriage? Children and families face so many stressors. I believe change and growth are possible. Your child can learn coping skills to help them advocate for what they need and manage their emotions. Families can return to a calm and peaceful state.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
