As we navigate life, we often face "barriers" that prevent us from moving forward and taking charge of our lives. The "barriers" that we face in life can be debilitating, but there are ways to break those "barriers" and create new paths towards your future. The new path created can lead one to a better quality of life.

"Leave me alone", "You don't get it", "It's not the same as when you were a kid". Parenting can feel insurmountable, but for teens who feel misunderstood, alone, helpless, or afraid, talking to a parent may feel intimidating or counterintuitive. As a parent, grandparent, single parent, co parent, god parent, extended relative you may feel that you have run out of ideas and things to try. You have options! Contact me to help bridge the communication gap between you and your teen/tween. We already have one thing in common and that's wanting the best for you and your family!

It can be difficult to find time to care for ourselves in a world filled with constant demands, injustices, and daily stressors. We can all use support during the challenging circumstances we are currently dealing with. I specialize in treating trauma, gender-based violence, generational trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. I believe that effective therapy involves not only addressing mental health concerns but also acknowledging and honoring cultural nuances and sensitivities.

My training also consist of CBT and DBT.
During the human experience, we will have struggles along the way. There are times we don't understand our own actions. We decide to take one approach to solve our problems and find ourselves doing something opposite of what we intended on doing. It is in those moments that we ask ourselves "How did I get here?" As a counselor for over 16 years, I partner with people to find their answers and to unlock their solutions. I have a solution-focused approach that assists clients in reestablishing balance, developing coping skills, and educating them on techniques and strategies to improve their capabilities.

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with 10+ years of experience providing support to individuals and their families in addressing their mental health and wellness. I seek to provide an empathetic, affirming and inclusive space for all that need help to work through the barriers in pursuing a life worth living. Often this can look like identifying and addressing “stuck points” that can impact our perception of self, others and the world and contribute to anxiety, feelings of sadness and struggles with self-worth as well as concerns with a sense of safety and security in an uncertain world.

I have been in private practice for over 35 years. I meet the client where they are at and more importantly assist them in where they want to be. I strive to help in the most professional and respectful way and value each and every opportunity to be in the lives of those who want to live the life they want. I believe there is nothing wrong with the individual but they are often striving for balance and harmony in their lives. All my clients want the same thing-Love and acceptance.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
