I may teach acceptance and mindfulness with ACT, and interpersonal communication for relationships.
We all strive to become the best versions of ourselves and to reach our highest potential. But as humans we're also vulnerable to fear, anger and self-doubt due to past traumas, and life events that can keep us stuck and unfulfilled.. I have faced some of these challenges myself. Sometimes we need help from an outside professional who is open, knowledgeable and compassionate. Often just the opportunity to be heard and understood can itself be healing. And the tools and insights learned from therapy can be life-changing. It's not easy but with motivation and a desire to grow, along with the right therapist, real progress can occur.

Have you been combing the St. Louis area for a therapist, only to be discouraged because no one felt like the right fit? Been there. Have you been putting off seeing someone because the thought of laying on a chaise lounge, talking about yourself to a stranger across the room for an hour gives you heartburn? Been there. Have you been avoiding getting help because you feel like that means you actually have to acknowledge that you need it? Holy moly, I’ve been there. While I can’t speak to your experience, I understand that the decision to go to therapy can feel impossibly hard. Seeking therapy/treatment shouldn’t feel like a burden.

Grief, loss, and trauma change everything: routines, relationships, identity, the future you thought you were building. I help people who are living with loss, struggling with life transitions, trauma, anxiety, caregiving, parenting, addiction, and more. Many of my clients are exhausted from "being strong" and the pressures of holding it all together for others. Whether you’ve lost a partner, a parent, a child, a dream, a job, or even a sense of who you are, you deserve a space where you don’t have to pretend you’re okay.

Welcome! Reaching out for help is the first, and often hardest, step to a happier, healthier life. Regardless of what brings you to counseling, finding a therapist that is a good match is essential to the process. I feel I work best with ages 13 to adult who are wanting to address concerns related to anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem/ identity, and those in the LGBTQ+ community. Each session is a place to address both successes and struggles, get feedback, and learn new skills to put into action. You control the direction of therapy and using skills between sessions to improve your own outcome.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
